Hello,
Please before you answer read the following. I have read way too many posts on this site and others where people answered with generic questions. I have exhausted all remedies I can find on the net, the next one is to pave over with Linux.
My issue is that ALL USB sticks I have (>10, various sizes from 4gb to 64gb) lock up when I am attempting to copy them from my hard drive to a usb via right click --> copy or drag and drop.
I have 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports and Sticks. I have tried every combination.
I have changed the from NTFS to Fat32 to exFat. It makes no difference.
I have downloaded and installed all updates for Windows 7 to this date.
I have downloaded and installed the hot fix windows had claiming to resolve this issue.
I have gone into devices and disabled all drives except for the origin and destination drive to avoid any conflicts, with no result.
It doesn't happen randomly it happens EVERY time.
My company uses USB's exclusively for daily data transfers. (Employees bring in their sticks and I upload them to our records I then have to recopy new records onto theirs.).
They will eventually after 3-5 minutes finish copying the final 5 seconds.
This is not acceptable. (I spend at least an hour a day with them hung up on my system.)
I am using an i5 with 6gb ram and do not have a heavy strain on the system.
I have made no modifications to the system (a Sony VAIO).
Everything else about this computer is good.
And I am stuck as I will never like Windows 8 so its either fix this or goto Linux.
If anyone has had this issue and found a fix please let me know.
And I have tried FASTCOPY and Terracopy and neither was any faster than the OS. They didn't "lock up" but instead slowly transferred data and in the end took the same amount of time to transfer an equivalent amount of data.
