Since installing Windows 7 all of my USB ports are ridiculously slow, USB 1.0 speeds at best.

I did not have this problem at all with XP, so it is not hardware related.

It is affecting a variety of devices, so no single one is to blame.

I guess on the plus side, my iPhone can almost get a full charge in the ~hour it takes to sync.

I think that usb actually freezes my PC occacsionally. I use a USB sound blaster external 24bit and usb keyboard-mouse. I can be watching a movie the sound stops and then moments later complete freeze. I using build 7201 I havent bothered with any newer ones just waiting for RTM hopefully they have fixed it :)

Looks like you need the chipset drivers for your board

Your system specs are a bit slim.

"OS- Windows 7, duh"

...doesn't help us know which version of Seven you have installed. There are many people using "leaked" versions, not everybody is using 7100rc.

Please fill out your system specs completely. ;)

I believe Zidane2424 is on the right track. Check with your pc/motherboard manufacture for chipset drivers. Vista should work if you can't find Windows 7 specific ones.

I have the CD that came with the motherboard but everything I try to install from it fails with some sort of "does not work with this version of windows" error.

I've been having USB problems since the first day I installed Vista and these issues have persisted in Windows 7 as well. Getting USB devices to work (properly) on Vista/Win7 has been a gamble for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In Windows XP on the other hand, USB works perfectly fine.

I don't know what the problem is, but it's probably driver related. Since I'm running an old nForce2 motherboard, obtaining Vista/Win7 compatible chipset drivers is out of the question; the board is simply too old. Like it or not, I'm just going to have to live with it I guess.

Go to Asrock Downloads

Enter or Find Your Motherboard and there should be a download for the chipset driver.

Not sure, but it may be called "AMD all in 1 driver" as I looked at couple of download pages, but didn't see any that showed "chipset".
Check the site for more info on downloading chipset drivers and whether its a part of the "AMD all in 1" drivers download if your motherboard download page doesn't have a driver called "chipset".

I'm running a very similar Athlon setup with 32 bit RC 7100. This won't help you other than to say your problem is probably solvable because my USBs are all consistently excellent, I have an external harddrive on USB with excellent transfers, better (I think) than on XP, and a variety of Flash Drives all just fine.

could you go into device manager and see if the usb are listed correctly or listed as unknown

I'm having similar problems on HP G60 243CL laptop that I bought to do video work at school. It is driving me absolutely up the wall. The laptop has an AMD Turion X2 2.1ghz processor 4GB of RAM and an Nvidia 8200M card. Going back to Vista or XP is unthinkable. I hope a fresh install helps. External hard drives, flash drives, and mice cut out constantly.

For devices that are disappearing go into power options and advanced settings, change USB selective suspend to disabled.

Also make sure in device manager that windows does not have the devices selected for power management.

And as others said earlier, it's 99% a chipset driver issue. Find the corresponding chipset driver for your motherboard (the Vista version, at least. Run it in compatibility mode if necessary)

Possible fix for some ppl:
I tried many of the suggestions trying to get the 32g Corsair USB stick to go faster, but no luck.
If I halted the slow copy then re-formatted it, it would start copying fast, then get slower, then get slower...until it stopped at 4k to 8k transfer speed. I went through a lot of the suggestions, but nothing helped.

The hardware, was an older Lenovo 3000 C200 laptop.

Finally gave up, and then decided to copy off the data by burning it onto a DVD...it was still really slow....
While in the disk manager, I decided to format the 32g Corsair memory stick one more time, and saw the option to use fat32 so gave it a try...copied over 3g of data onto the stick in about 25min. Maybe not blazing speed, but a lot better than 12 to 24 hour copy times using NTFS on the thumb drive.

Only tested this on one 32g Corsair thumb drive so not sure if it applies to others.

Of course, you should also google the limitations of using FAT32 as well to learn more, but hey--it worked for me.

Well, on my HP 4510s ProBook, i have EXTREMELY slow transfer rates. It starts at 10mB/s (light-speed for me), in 5 seconds goes down to 1mB/s, and in 1 minute to 100kB/s, and keeps decreasing... It's pain to transfer 50mB, problem is at all ports, all the time, FAT32, NTFS and exFAT. Any tips?

Hi All

Im placing this in many forums as this had worked for me on many systems now to solve the slow usb's within win7...I advise that you update your system bios and then once thats done update your chipset drivers....

It sometimes only takes to only do your bios but please be carefull updating your bios, as this is a minefield if you are unsure what your doing so PLEASE BE CAREFULL....

hope this helps

Problem is within the system, not in Your drivers / hardware / configs / or whatever. Windows 7 is telling You: "**** You, i Will not work fast until You feed me $$$ by buying new windows 8 (worst system ever)"

PS. I would never pay for any windows :D bye bye :D

I have been fighting a jerky USB mouse. It was so bad I would have to reboot. Googled my fingers off, worked both the hardware and software side. Last week I find this, it's been right here under my nose the whole time. It's 99.9% improved.

I think this well apply to about any USB problem.
