Recently, I've been unable to use any SD card readers on my Win7 x64 Pro computer.

Anytime I plug in a SD card reader, it fails to operate. No drive letter appears at all.

Looking at the Device Manager, I find that the WPD FileSystem Volume Driver has an error. "The device cannot start. (Code 10)."

Looking online, the only advice I could find was to uninstall the driver and then reboot and scan for hardware. The exact error pops up again. There are no updates to the driver, which is an ancient 6/21/2006 v6.1.7600.16385 from Microsoft.

I have 2 SD card readers this happens to. One is purely a SD card reader. The other has both SD and microSD card slots. Both result in the same error, placed in different USB ports, including ports directly connected to the motherboard.

A pure microSD card reader doesn't have the same issue.

Looking for any guidance. Thank you.

Never mind. Apparently I needed to assign the device a drive letter in disk management. Not sure how it got lost to begin with?
