Solved USB stick shows as local disk

I have a 64GB USB3 stick that shows as 'Local Disk' in Computer. I am a bit puzzled. Why would it not show as a removable device like any other good USB stick. That is the only one of my sticks that does that. It is this one:

Just a thought.
Did you choose the drive letter (M) or did you let Windows pick the drive letter.
Did you wipe the stick; their might be something on the stick from the manufacture.

Crazy thoughts but sometimes I think that way.

I chose M and nothing is on it. I formatted it in Fat32.

I can remember quite a few Threads on here with the same problem .. Seems to be related to Sandisk Sticks ..

Hmm, interesting. One of the programs that I use to install Linux on sticks did not recognize it as a stick either - only as 'other devices'. Installations work OK but it is somehow curious.

Thanks Derek. That seems to be it and explains it. They come up with new stuff all the time, LOL.

The way it is does not really bother me, but it was odd and I was curious.

It is a nice stick and I don't know yet what to with it. At first I wanted to use it for my Linux on a stick, but then I already used my 128GB stick for that. So this one is awaiting an assignment.

I have five or six that don't get used much but they could be put to better use.

Apparently your flash drive is Win 8 certified

More specifically, that's a feature of "Windows To Go" which is a feature found in Win 8 or 8.1 Enterprise. The same ol' flash drives (we all own and love) will continue to work as expected in Win 8.

Windows To Go is an Enterprise feature that allows admins to install or boot and run a Windows image off a certified flash drive
