I have a Vantec NexStar TX NST-210S2-BK Hard Drive Enclosure - 2.5" SATA to USB 2.0 wit a 120 GB Segate Harddrive in it connected to an Asus K61-IC laptop and my transfer speeds on all my USB Ports are acting super slow.

My laptops specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (2.20 GHz)
4 GB Ram
750 GB Western Digital Blue Hard Drive 5400 RPM
NVidia GeForce GT 220 Video Card
16" HD Display
4 2.0 USB Ports

The hard drive enclosure requires two USB Ports which I have both plugged in.

I'm trying to transfer some folders I don't use much to the external and its taking forever. I have never had this problem before.

Currently I'm transferring at 992 KB/Second according to Windows.

Also I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1.

Any help with this is appreciated.

Thank You.

Edit: Also, Just recently I've had a balloon tip start popping up in the taskbar telling me that if I hook my USB Devices up to a USB 2.0 Port it will run faster. I'm pretty sure that all my USB Port's are 2.0. Not for sure on this but if someone will explain how, I'll check and post results.

The 2 USB cables are required for this model because one is the power cable. I would say the controller in your enclosure is at fault.

You can always look in Event Viewer whether there is a specific problem reported. But best is probably if you try another enclosure.

Roger, Thanks for the info. I don't have another enclosure to try with at the moment, but I'm about to get on Tiger Direct and get a new one ordered, so once it comes in I will post results and let yall know if that was the case.

I would RMA the thing - if that is possible.

Too old. I got it when I got the Asus laptop and that was a good 3 or 4 years ago, held up good though, I must say, I use it on a regular basis and it has just started giving me problems.
