using a usb3 device on win 7 laptop with usb 2 ports?

Hi my win 7 laptop has usb 2 ports and i,m trying to get it to sync with my tablet which is usb 3 I believe. I thought if I connected the usb3 cable that came with tablet, to my laptop, it would read it and install drivers the usual way, but it doesn't. when connected to the laptop the cable only charges my tablet but does not detect it as a new connection? any idea of a way round this? i do not have a express type slot to add usb 3 port express card. its mainly to transfer photos and movies from my laptop to tablet and vice versa. I could simply add files to memory card but would prefer syncing if possible? thanks

Some cables are charge only. You need a cable that can do data transfer

it says on the tablet manual that the cable can be used for data transfer with a pc? the only other connections i got with the tablet was a 2 prong charger and a otg cable which i,d never heard of before.

Normally there will be a settings on the tablet to set USB mode as mass storage or similar

The USB connection is configured automatically whenever you connect your Android tablet to a computer. Everything should work peachy. When it doesn’t, you can try manually configuring the USB connection: Swipe down the notifications panel and choose the USB notification...
