Watching TV tonight I saw that one of our leading politicians uses this app to encrypt his messages on an iPad I think it was - at least it looked like one.

Now reading about it I thought what a good idea it was until I got to the part where it self destructs after anything from 3 seconds to six days. Now I got to thinking about this and while I still think it is good for privacy purposes the fact the message is deleted eventually seems a bit daft if in the event that one wanted to recall what was said say a month ago??

For example say one paid for or agreed a set price for an item via the phone then there would be no way of proving or disproving what was agreed to after the six days is up, and one could be up for more than was originally agreed to.

What des anyone else think of this service?.

Have been just reading about it John .. The self destruct timer seems to be the down side to it ...

Yes Brian it seems to be rather pointless - I could see the point of a message being encrypted and then self destruct if it was attempted to be opened by some device or program not in sync or authorized to do so. Otherwise I cannot think of anything hat I send that I do not want to keep for future reference, and now my thoughts on that politician using it has really got me doubting if he is as good as I always have thought he was.

Yes its a bit of a shame John ... Might have been a good app but with that feature it would put me of even trying it ..

Yep me too Brian seems as I said before like an exercise in futility because again if one relied on that message for legal reasons you would be up that famous creek without said paddle:sarc:

Sounds like "James Bond 007" type of messages, read it - do it, pretend it never happened. Perhaps they use it to talk about weather and don't want to be accountable for what they say about it?

The problem with the app is that the receiver can instantly save the file and then who cares if the bomb goes off? It is still there for public view.

Yes I suppose that is one way out of a what I think is a system open to missing important info and I for one get a lot of traffic on my machines and that is almost impossible to keep up with that at times.

Just for the record I don't put out info which I think is a of a very personal nature unless I have to - it just seems using the net is getting so convoluted now:sarc:
