Solved various BSODs mainly when doing video work

So far so good. I know it has been a long time from post #1 Jan 2013,and centaur78 has given tons of help. May I suggestion you go back to the start and read through all the post to make sure nothing has been missed. Centaur 78 is off line now.

Hi Layback Bear, looking back at what I did in the past, I still have the impression that this a hardware issue. Considering that the crash dumps are rather random without pointing in a specific direction, I was wondering whether the mainboard might be the issue. Tests of graphict, CPU and ram did not help. So the onl items left appear to be mainbiard, drives and power. Without specific issues with data on the hdd or ssd the mb sounds most likely. I appreciate the dedication of all that helped me (especially centaur) but start to move from being tired of this issue to frustration. Maybe I should just use this whole issue for an update of the hardware and hope that this resolves the crashes as side effect. Good night o.

Hi Oberfrank

Here is my analysis of what we have seen and done so far. (correct me if i am wrong)

1. The BSOD/Hang issue started when you have installed a new SSD.

2. Various Hardware test are done ie. CPU test, Memtest, Furmark .. all passing without any problems.

3. HDD/SDD smart values shows both the health of the disks to be good. the only thing we haven't done here is the Benchmark test ... but we will get to that later.

4. Most of Hang/BSOD are caused when you are using Avidemux or Magix to transcode and the BSOD dump provided each time was corrupt or cannot be opened to analysis... and those which i am able to analyse does shows different Bugcheck but most Parameters pointing to Cx0005 or memory related errors. Which led me to ask you to change the pagefile from SSD to HDD.
This again didnt resolve the BSOD's or hangs but still point issue related to SSD or how SSD is accessed.

Now here is what it looks like.... The North Bridge chipset for your motherboard AMD 890GX and the
South Bridge: AMD SB850. The North Bridge chipset AMD 890Gx support HT 3.0, 2x16 PCIe, and enhanced Quad Crossfire X 4x8 support and RV620 core, based on the Radeon 3000-series

and

the South Bridge AMD SB850 new SATA 3 controller with speeds of 6 GB/s , support AM3, and offer Gigabit MAC, AHCI 1.2, 6 SATA 3 interfaces, 14 USB ports, and RAID 5 and possibly the second generation PCIe 4X.

one interesting fact is that the South Bridge supports the latest SATA 3 controller with 6 Gb/s which the newer SSD uses.

Now...... here is what you need to do first .... looks at the below image and let me know the Motherboard revision. As far as i can tell this would either be 2.0 or 2.1

View attachment 267997

You are running Bios Version FC ... in both motherboard revisions... the latest update is FF

Rev 2.0
View attachment 267998

Rev 2.1
View attachment 267999

... and if you look closer at the FD update ... you will see there is an update to AMD SB850 which is your south bridge chipset...

So here is my advice to you....

Update your bios based on the revision you have checked from the motherboard and update it to the latest. This should solve the problem

If you have GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 2.0) go here

If you have GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 2.1) go here

Also update all other drivers when you are at it... you have update for other drivers as well released in 2013 like the audio drivers.

Do these and let me know.

So far so good:
Flashed the Bios and ran one really short test without issues. I will have to do some more testing and update all of the drivers and will provide an update later this week.

Hi,

after running severals tests I have not had a single problem with the PC freezing or a BSOD.

Thank you to all helping me in getting this resolved and especially to Centaur who really was very patient and extremely helpful.
