My avc movies in MKV containers are working fine but my VC-1 Remuxes (Untouched video) don't play within MCE??? Media Player Classic just works fine?

I have installed the Windows 7 codecs from Shark and using FFDSHOW. Tried VC-1 with Libavoc and WM9.

Can anyone help me?

I see this is related to your other thread. Are you now running a 32-bit version (honestly, no idea why you would format and replace the 64-bit version, but whatever)?

I'm running the 64-bit RC with only Haali's Media Splitter (x64) installed and I can play everything in both WMP and Media Center.

I have the 64-bit on my desktop computer. I installed the 32bit on my HTPC to fix the problems. I only using it for my HD movies.

Can you explain to my how you installed everything and are you also playing VC-1 MKV files?

I tried this now http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/02/mkvs-for-minimalists-on-windows-7.html

But it's not working with Haali and only with Gabest. I don't know what the difference is but I would like to have the best......

Update: Clean install again (windows 7 64bit v.7127). Shark codecs made my sound config dissapear so I couldn't use this anymore. I am now trying this solution MKVs for Minimalists on Windows 7 on Hack7mc.com Installed FFDSHOW 32 and 64 bit. Everything is working including VC-1 Encodes. Only problem is that VC-1 codec is not using FFDSHOW???? So if anyone can show me how to fix this?

Smuller,

I'm having exactly the same problem you're having (or were having). I'm using Win7 RC build 7100 (32 bit) and can play back all of my ripped blu-ray files (mkv & .m2ts) with exception of those blu-ray files encoded using VC-1 codecs. I have tried bypassing the windows foundation codecs by disabling them, but when I do this ffdshow doesn't lauch even though I specifiy in the ffdshow config that it decode VC-1 files using wm9. Would you mind walking me through exactly what you did to get your VC-1 files to playback in MCE, as this driving me nuts? Also, are your VC-1 files saved in .mkv file containers or .m2ts file containers?

Many thanks,

Battles

Hey, how do u disable the foundation codecs?
My vc-1 are all in MKV files and are playing within MCE but not with FFDSHOW. The quality is not as good as FFDSHOW........ all the AVC h.264 in MKV are all playing fine!!

I read elsewhere that in addition to including several video filters to deal with more content, Windows 7 also basically blocks any third party from overriding their filters. There are a few players that work around this issue, such as Zoom Player, VLC, or SMplayer. There's also reputedly a tool available to override Windows 7's settings.

As far as Matroska, I'd try the Combined Community Codec Pack.

Look, Media Classic Player is working fine with FFDSHOW highest quality. The mystery is MCE internal player? I've got FFDSHOW working (MCDU) with AVC H.246 encodes but the remuxen (VC-1) is still using the internal codec and that quality is not as good unfortunately

This problem was outlined on the forums at doom9.net. The tool for changing DirectShow filters was made for exactly that reason. For anyone that's interested, it can be downloaded via Doom9 here.

I have Windows 7 64

I wanted to know if anyone knows how to fix the problem of playing hd m2ts files that have the VC1 AP@L3 in them
I noticed that MPC and Windows Media player will not play the video; the screen is black
all other blu-ray video files from movies play fine; interestedly, Power DVD 9 or 10 plays these VC1 files with no problem

the reason I ask is because these same VC1 AP@L3 files cannot be inputted in softwares like Nero 10, Xilisoft, Sothink, etc

all of these softwares can take other m2ts files with no problem; no copy protection on any of these files

I think it has to be the same reason; some type of codec; the files that play on MPC or Windows Media player can be inputted in all these softwares to edit or make disc, etc

can anyone let me know what codec I need to install to get these to play

I also have tried the windows 7 filter tweaker; for 64 bit under VC1; they only show microsoft as the choice

Demux the Video/Audio stream with TsMuxer.
You should end up with a VC1 file and either DTS or AC3 for audio.

Re-Mux them as a MKV file.
MKV will be less troublesome.

yeah the MKV way works but I did not think the quality of the MKV was the same as the m2ts file
a better way would be to fix the VC1 codec problem; then I can play using mpc or wmp and put the files into nero and other softwares

The quality should be the same.
MT2S,MKV,MP4 are nothing but a container to hold the streams.
The main difference being MT2S has a lot higher overhead. Meaning the container itself is a larger file size.

Whats inside them does not change.

The only other thing I can suggest, if you prefer the MT2S container, is Shark007s codec pack.
You can then decode using FFDshow or HW accleration.

You'll need the 64bit add on as well however if you intend on using WMC, and have 64bit Windows.

Using the Shark007 Settings Application,
choose to use the SUGGESTED settings checkbox
and then on the MPG~MP4 TAB, set the blu-ray splitter.

The above information will only work with the latest releases
v269 for 32bit and v273 for 64bit

On x64 operating systems,
Media Center is a 64bit player, requiring you to make these settings in the 64bit application.
