Solved verifier.exe

bonjour - could someone point me to the proper procedure for running verifier.exe and having results checked possibly on this forum? (i seem to have a driver conflict with intermittent irq-bsod on wakeup from sleep) - thanks much!

thank you anak, yes this is PART of the answer to my question, the second part being how do i get the results and what do i do with them assuming i get bsod's when enabling verifier...
however, after playing with various parameters (services, proxy settings, windows features...) i seem to have solved my problem (no more bsod's so far) - now i am hesitating between satisfying my curiosity and not fixing something that aint broken...
btw, i'd have another -somewhat related- question (dont know if it's "legal" to post it here in the same thread): is (are) there any FREE and reliable driver updater(s) that i could use? i came across "driver easy", which found 44 outdated drivers in my machine, but asks for $$ to automatically update them (doing it manually looks like hell)...

First bit of advice, dont use driver-updater type software - many are unscrupulous and the results are not always what they appear to be. Always search for and download and install drivers directly from the hardware manufacturers site.

Running Driver Verifier:

Run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Driver Verifier will cause your computer to run very sluggishly - this is normal. What it is trying to do is force your system to BSOD and isolate the offending driver/s. When it does, reboot, disable driver verifier, reboot as normal and upload the dmp file/s here.

I recommend creating a system restore point before turning on driver verifier:

If your system fails to boot to desktop once driver verifier is enabled, turn it off by booting into Safe Mode:

Uploading BSOD Info:

1. Download the DM Log Collector application to your desktop by clicking the link below

DM Log Collector.exe

2. Run it by double-clicking the icon on your desktop, and follow the prompts.
3. Locate the .ZIP file that is created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

If it's going okay since you readjusted some settings I'd wait until / unless your machine starts acting up again and if it does then follow Golden's procedure on running and collecting the verifier results. Have you ever heard of letting "sleeping dogs lie"?

I'd also follow Golden's advice with finding drivers and stay with the manufacture's site. To take some of the sting out of finding them look for an updater program on your FSC machine it might be named FSC Updater and if there isn't one go to the FSC site and look up your machine to start the process.
These from-the-internet-updater-programs will use generic drivers that cover a wide range of permutations for the different models / sub-models of your machine while going to the manufacture's site will be specific to yours.

thank you for your advices! i'll stay away from updaters (indeed i already had problems with one of them before), and let the sleeping dog lie - i'll have that thread available in case i run into some trouble with a driver and need to use verifier - in fact my machine is old (10 years) and often when i connect a new device, its "modern" driver(s) will create issues...

STOP! Those so-called Driver updater programs are a scam! Don't be Scammed! If you need a new driver for some piece of hardware, go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest driver from there.
Also, don't get your drivers from Microsoft.

A word to the wise, should be sufficient!

Actually, the Microsoft drivers are the only tested and certified drivers...those from 3rd parties haven't been tested with the same rigour, which explains why 99% of BSOD's are driver related, and why 100% of those 99% are all 3rd party drivers.

Sometimes, but not all the time, the Microsoft driver is the best driver to use.

What about Intel's? I remember installing a driver recommended by Intel (for my monitor I think), and it was a mess...

Intel is 3rd party (i.e. not Microsoft). If you need specific functionality for the monitor that the Intel driver delivers, then you have to go with that driver.......if not the MS driver will do.
