VERY Slow internet browsing speed.

I installed windows 7 64-bit the other day and i've noticed that browsing the internet is VERY difficult. Sometimes pages will only half load (missing graphics etc) or not load at all. I have tried chrome, IE and firefox and they all have the same issues. As another example, no youtube videos load anymore it just gives me an error. I know my internet isn't this slow because it never has been and i haven't changed anything, if i'm downloading files from the internet I can get decent speeds, its just browsing that is the real pain. I have looked for solutions to the problem, and i've tried them but they don't seem to work, one told me to add these two keys to my registry, one told me to type something into command prompt others have told me to disable windows update and nothing has solved it. Any help would be appreciated.

Just a stupid question : did you install your network card's drivers over Windows 7's supplied drivers? It can make a huge difference because Win7's are very basic.

Btw, Welcome to Win7 forums.

Hello TehHerb and a second welcome to the Se7enforums!

When first installing 7 and seeing to all device drivers and softwares you will also need to install Adobe Flash Player as well as go through the various setting in IE 8 for things like animations. Java runtime is another component needed as well for animations on web pages.

Java is free for Windows at java.com: Java + You SUN Microsystems provides that one free for Windows users as well as for their own OS. The main download page for Adobe is at Adobe - Downloads

Ah, no I haven't downloaded any network card drivers. I am not sure what network card I have? I always thought that they were something extra you could purchase. If you could please assist me on that it'd be great thanks :P

I Just installed Java, and from what I can see Facebook is loading much quicker, I'll install flash now and see what happens. Also, I am using google chrome currently, as web pages on IE don't even seem to load at all.

Once the animations/ads typically seen on various pages start loading up normally you shouldn't be seeing that much longer with IE 8. Things like active x controls and the flash player for the animated ads will speed things up as a rule.

For finding out exactly just what hardwares and even programs you have on your system there's a great and free too system information tool you can download from SIW | System Information for Windows by Gabriel Topala

The "System Info for Windows"(SIW) tool provides just about all of the general information you need for locating the updates needed. For video, sound(onboard or installed card even), main board drivers like chipset, sata/Raid controllers the details will help for the 64bit Windows.

There is some specification of your motherboard (the Gigabyte X48-DQ6), and the link be:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2763&ProductName=GA-X48-DQ6

You can find your lan chip is the Realtek 8111c on that page. And, you can download the driver from link below:
http://www.station-drivers.com/page/realtek.htm

Hope this might be your referece.

Thanks woolswell, I installed the correct driver and it has made SOME improvement. Now, i would say that two thirds of the webpages load, but the other third of the time i'm still getting problems, could it be my ISP?

The type of connection as well as speed and how busy their servers are at a particular time of day or night can often play a role. You still have to make sure that flash player, Java runtime, and other things are installed depending on the browser used for embedded media playback for animations and other things with any fresh install of Windows. It's not limited to 7 either.

Hey, just for anybody else who is having this issue, I fixed it accidentally haha, i knocked out the transformer for the router, and plugged it back in. Now i'm back at full speed.

So if anybody has this problem, try turning off the power to your router and see if it fixes it ;)

That's called recycling the power usually recommended when having problems during the initial setup. I guess you got recycled then but are glad to be back up and going again! :D

(don't feel bad! I still have to get one of two routers working on the setup here.)
