Very slow startup on pavilion g6

I recently purchased a pavilion g6 laptop running windows 7 with intel i3 core. got ot home and it started up great within a couple of minutes. Went through onscreen tutorials and was prompted to allow windows to automatically update which I did. Windows then went on to update about 11 things, which were for security and x64bit, Iwas then prompted to restart which I did. It then went on to configure the updates which took 4 hours!!
Now everytime the laptop is turned on it takes 15 minutes to load. (this time is from the time I press the power button to the desktop screen) For the first couple of minutes I get a black screen with the windows logo, then the pale blue 'please wait' screen which lasts about 5 mins. I am then prompted to input my password. Another pale blue 'please wait' screen for a couple of minutes. The screen then goes blank for the remainder if the time (but I can see and move the pointer onscreen)

I have done a troubleshoot and the results came back that I have to many programs running at startup which may hamper performance but as these are preinstalled or have been automatically updated I'm not sure which ones are needed, below is a list of these programs.

You can safely disable most of them, keep the Audio and Pointer Device Driver running unless you use a USB mouse or external speakers. IAStorIcon should be kept on only if you don't normally backup your hard drive. The bottom half (bluetooth, adobe, etc.) really depends on how often you use them.

OEM laptops tend to have a lot of additional stuff that just uses up system resources and don't serve any true purpose.

Thankyou pxsalmers for your response, Have now deleted lots of programs, below is listed what is left to open on startup. Unfortunately I am still having the same problem and deleting some programs has not helped any more suggestions would be gratefully received.

I recently bought a very similar HP laptop: ProBook4530s. My 1st Win7 machine, all the others are WinXP-Pro.
In addition to all the Microsoft Updates, there were as many or more from HP servers. Don't uninstall any of the HP specific apps, because about a week later, I received a notice that many more HP updates were available, even a BIOS update.

I don't why your startup is slow, mine is 15-30sec, haven't measured it. I also added an additional 4GB of RAM for a total of 8GB (max for the laptop & for corei3m-Sandy Bridge). The hard drive seems to be specific to the ProBook, WD-32GB, 7200rpm. Mine also has a USB 3.0 port.

Since no docs or CD's are provided, I recommend backup imaging the entire drive to an external USB drive. I use Macrium Reflect. Images are about half the size of the used space on notebook drive.
