Hi,

I would appreciation some help or pointing me to where I can get help.

Running 64bit 7 professional on Dell lattitude 6420 and an external magnovox display thorugh the docking station. When I restart the computer or wake from sleep, the monitor flickers for about 5 minutes until it settles down, but evenually settles down and displays at 1440x900, the monitors native resolution. When I go to display settings, windows 7 recognizes the "Magnovox TV" as the display.

I suspected somthing bad with the VGA cable and changed to a different, newer, one. When I do this, I do not get the lcd flicker, but I do not have the option to display in 1440x900 and when I go to display settings it recongizes only a "Generic npnp monitor."

Why, when I switch cables does it no longer recognize the monitor brand and not give me the display resolution I want? I have resarted the compuer a bunch of times, tried unconnecting and reconnecting. Also, I have looked at the nvidia settings to create a custom resolution and 1440x900 resolution fails the test using BOTH cables. When I switch the cable back it agian recongizes the magnovox lcd and gives me the 1440x900 option.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

All I can think of is that you have a defective cable. Although it is fairly rare, the cable could have had a small thing done wrong in manufacturing.
Why did you need a new cable if the old one works just fine?

I don't know about you, but 5 minutes of flickering is not ok with me lol. May seem silly, but have you tried the cable the other way around?

The old cable provides the proper resolutions 1440x900 but flickers.

The new cable does not flicker but displays only 1024x768.

Any ideas?
