Ok, so i have no clue how it broke but it's broken and when i plug it in, theres nothing on my monitor and i'm sure it's not my vga cord because i used it on my other computer and it worked fine.. I have no clue and i really need some help!!. I have no other inputs on my computer like displayport or dvi.. i have usb though so i tried looking up a usb to vga but those are really expensive.. if u can find me a cheap one that'd be great.. also please help me but i am thinking of getting a cheap video card but wouldnt that make games go really slow if i buy a cheap one? the video card isn't broken just the vga part of it

edit: actually im not sure if the vga is part of the video card.. look at the picture please

No system specs. :(

If the "VGA part of it" is broken, the card is broken. It will probably be cheaper to buy a new card than to have the card (output port I assume) repaired.

What's the card?

If it has a DVI-I output port, you could use an adapter to get a VGA output. Those are cheap.

Hi erickho123, Have a careful look at the VGA plug end of the monitor and ensure you have no bent pins ! If the card works ok on another pc then the card is working , Have you tried the monitor on another PC ? If there are no bent pins have you tried booting into safe mode ? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html post back with your results :)

Either the cable connector or the card connector is bad. You can try a different cable but if it's the card connector, it needs repaired or replaced. You can also try what Bob suggests and try a DVI-VGA adapter if your card has DVI.

We have no way of knowing if a cheaper card would lower your frame rates since no one but you knows what the card or frame rate is now. Video cards constantly improve and change price and a better card could be cheaper than what you have now. Who knows?

That's why we ask for system specs. Had we known what system/motherboard you were using, we all could have saved some time. Your video is motherboard based--Not a separate card.

Looks like the motherboard connector is toast. I can't make anymore suggestions until more detail is given on your system but it will either be a new motherboard or add a video card. By the looks of the components, that's a very old board. Might be time to upgrade.

I was hoping for information specific enough to permit me (or others) to look up the specs for your PC. I'm sorry I can't tell you where to look on an HP machine to get the information. Dells come with a service tag sticker which serves to uniquely ID the model. Perhaps HP puts a sticker on the back that gives the model, serial number, build date, etc. There's certainly such a sticker on the back of my 2008 vintage HP/Compaq laptop.

That said, if the VGA connector has broken loose from the motherboard, it may be repairable. Whether you could find someone to do that for a price that would make it worthwhile, I don't know.

If it's a HP, shouldn't it have some sort of sticker showing the model number somewhere? Try looking at all sides of the casing, even underneath. And what do you mean, you "can't access the computer"?

first of all please provide information does your motherboard has PCI-E or AGP slot
there is no holes in case, but should be removable backplates (see attached picture) in back of pci/pcie slots. (on some cases you need to break those plates out usually using screwdriver)

google for agp and pci express pictures to find out your slots by looks (if other data is not available)
then you can buy a VGA that maches your slot. (agp is old so you can buy only used VGA for that slot)
but maybe you need to think about upgrading your system.
