Solved Video from My Olympus Stylus 710

can not be viewed after being downloaded by Windows 7.

When I attempt to view these clips I get an error message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

These same files can be read if downloaded on my computer with the XP OS.

What am I doing wrong?

Install the Win7codecs

This software installs a Settings application.
Run it with a rightclick on the shortcut and choose, run as Administrator' to complete the installation.

The download page was overloaded with other options to download; a situation which usually turns me away but I eventually did a download. It seemed a bit unconventional but it worked. Then I was faced with still another option to download which I believe I declined.

Even though I now do not feel comfortable with what I have done, I can view videos from my digital camera using Windows Media Player.

It does seem to be doing that; at least to the extent that I know how. There seems to be many different modes of operation and I have not yet attempted to use any beyond the defaults. I am not all that computer literate so I need to move on carefully.

I assume that if I change nothing in the "Settings Applications" that the default values provide for normal operations while using Windows 7 and my Olympus 710 digital camera. I come to this conclusion simply because everything I normally do (with my video files) seems to work.

What I do not understand is what the myriad of options provide for me.

Should I just leave well enough alone and use what is there (defaults)?

or

Is there a lot for me to learn that I need to know to make full and better use of my simple digital video background?

I am really embarrassed that this is not all intuitive to me.

If I exercise the "uninstall" option, will I be back where I was before I did this download?

The default settings are often enough for most people.
The miriad of settings are there to solve common playback issues on an idividual basis.

By using the UNINSTALL option on the Help TAB, your system is returned to a pre-installation state.

Thank you for the response. At this point I see no reason for why I would want to uninstall. Everything seems to be working fine.
