Solved View Installed Updates Problem

When I type 'View Installed Updates' in the Start Menu search bar, I get all the updates arranged by category under a bold heading for three categories-- Adobe Reader, Microsoft Office Home and Business and Windows 7. The categories remain for each view I might choose.

Under 'View Installed Updates' from Programs and Features, I get all updates bunched together with no category headings.

Am using SP1 and I don't remember if this happened under the non- SP1 version.

I am also using SP1 and they are displayed with catagories when viewed both ways.

Both methods take me to the same place

All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features > Installed Updates

and the displays is by category. What view are you using? Mine is set to Details.

I am using the details view also but have tried the other too. I began to doubt the problem was SP1 related so I resotered my system from a True Image .tib file to its pre-Sp1 stage and the problem was still there. From start menu shows categories and from Programs and Features does not. 'Tis strange indeed.

That looks like what I get from the Start Menu but not from the Program and Features.

It's starting to sound like some sort of folder view issue since it displays properly from one location and not another. Use the tutorial below to reset all folder view settings back to default to see if it will display properly afterwards.

Thank you very much Brink! That solved the problem -- not that is was a real problem but it sure did satisfy my curiosity.

I will try to give you some more rep but will probably get told to spread it around.
