Virtual wifi Router ... Is this a virus or trojan?

Windows 7 Virtual Wifi Router


I ran it and when I hit Configure/View Comodo told me that it was trying to have full access of my keyboard.

Is this a Trojan?

Windows 7 Virtual Wi-Fi router is a software emulation of the wi-fi adapter which is present in your computer.

This is not a Trojan. The purpose of this virtual Wi-Fi router is to allow you to create a wi-fi hotspot from your computer so that nearby computers may connect to it for internet access. If you already have a wi-fi router in your home then you don't need it. This will come in handy when you have a cable connection for internet and wants to give wireless access to other systems in your home.

If you have installed it from internet, you may uninstall it from Control Panel - Programs and Features. Otherwise you may disable it in Device Manager.

Then why is it requesting access to my Keyboard (this was the notification from Comodo firewall)?

If you feel that this program is a rogue program and is a security threat to your system, uninstall the program. I suggest you use a hardware wifi router instead of a software router.

I'm not sure if it is so I am asking if anyone has experience with it? What is a good home hardware firewall and how can a novice learn how to use it. I have the router that came with my FIOS service.

Your hardware router which came with FIOS service is good enough for you. This router will allow you to use multiple devices and computers to connect to it for internet access. You don't need another software wifi router. I don't know why you want to use it in the first place.

You can simply uninstall it and forget it.

If you still insist on using this software, give us the reason.

With regard to the Firewall, Comodo firewall is a very good firewall which is available for free. I recommend you to use Comodo Internet Security Premium package which will give you a good firewall and antivirus package. Even I am using the same program. There is no need for a hardware firewall.
