Virtualization - What Now?

Interesting thread!

I've been experimenting with Win7 XP mode and some VirtualBox machines recently .. might go and see what this VMware vSphere Hypervisor is all about next!

The ESXi hypervisor is really more suited around businesses and enterprises rather than home use to make a few legacy apps and such work or to fool around and experiment with. Also remember that you need at least 2 computers to use this at all. 1 of them runs ESXi...and you need another machine which you connect from for setting up the VM's and doing anything. Without 2 physical machines, you really have nothing.

instant ON win7 boot time?

I also put together a build list for work with a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R mobo, the Intel 10/100/1000 PCI express X1 NIC and an Adaptec S2405 raid controller. I know those things work together.[/QUOTE]

I am contemplating a similar build (WIN7 only) with configuring (maxing out 2.5 inch hard drive count, that Adapec S2405 allows) in raid stripes config to get raw speed improvement both when rebooting AND video editing. I have been very happy with Ghost 15 for restoration from bare metal or lights out. Any negatives here I need to consider? warmest personal regards, cowpatty
