Virus Bulletin's RAP testing

A while ago I was dumb enough to buy a year sub to G-Data 2010 without testing it first as I fell for all the reviews but I have to say that even if it is the best it is not worth the aggravation. Its a total system hog and it also slowed my internet to an absolute crawl. I could not even run internet speed test without it taking ten minutes (even through my PlayOn server). It seemed to scan everything while it downloaded and I could not break dial up speeds.
Good to see MS doing well though, I have been enjoying MSE and Forefront.

I had the same experience with G-Data. The hiked the CPU like anything. Everything was messed up.

Hi all
Norton and Macaffe only exist because "They've been around since Pontius was a Pilot (Pilate)" and corporations tend to stick with whatever software they initially installed even though years later there are MUCH MUCH better options.

Similarly I expect a whole slew of these AV software companies to fall by the wayside in the relatively near future now Microsoft has entered the fray with a good FREE protection system -- and the EU Commission won't have a hope of stopping MS in this instance --since any court in the known universe will agree that system security is (or should be) an INTEGRAL PART of the OS.

A few niche players who can provide really smart nifty online / real time sooper dooper fast PROACTIVE rather than REACTIVE protection whilst using minimal system resources might survive especially if they come up with a really good real time DRIVE BY protection application - but the old fashioned type of expensive / paid for Dinosaur type CPU grabbing software hogs will definitely go and rather sooner than later I suspect (and good riddance too).

Give it a few months and I'm sure MSE will probably out rank the rest - or certainly be as reasonably good for individual users than anything else out there (and it's's FREE).

Cheers
jimbo
