I would like to be able to install malwarebytes to a flash drive so that I can plug it in to an infected PC and run scans.

This would be useful in situations where the infected PC has internet connectivity issues or the virus is preventing malwarebytes from being installed.

Is this possible?

No it is not, but do know of something that might interest you. You can download a manual updater from the link below. Keep the link handy, and when working on a computer that might have malware, download the newest version of the updater and copy it to the computer you are working on to update Malwarebytes.

SuperAntiSpyware has a portable scanner you can add to your arsenal.

The only thing is, the virus defs are updated continually, so it's best to d/l this on the day you find you need it if you want the latest defs. Otherwise, you can keep it on your FD, perhaps update it every week.

Just get a FixMeStick

FixMeStick is great. It is a bootable linux flash drive with Sophos, Malwarebytes and Kaspersky all rolled into one. Plug it in, select it as the boot drive and reboot, then just answer a few questions, then come back the next day. It automatically downloads updates onto the flash drive, then scans all devices and quarantines viruses, trojans, rootkits, PUP, etc. and gives you the choice of what to do with them.

bwarrington,

Virus scanner installed on USB flash drive

You may be aware of this, but, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not an "AntiVirus" program, if that is what you mean by a "virus scanner".

Fine for me...I'm retired!
Did I say MalwareBytes Anti-Malware was a virus scanner? I only said "it", meaning FixMeStick. Kaspersky and Sophos both do scan for viruses. Anyway, I beg to differ on the MalwareBytes too, since the MalwareBytes Anti-Malware installation I did on a few machines did indeed scan for and quarantine viruses, as well as trojans, PUP's and other types of malware. Chek yur fax, dude.;)
