Visa Rebate Card

When I bought my last EVGA graphics card, which had a $25 MIR, they gave a choice of waiting the usual amount of time for a check, or accept their "no wait" rebate via a Visa card, but only for $22. I chose the latter, since It seemed worth $3 to speed it up. However "no wait" really means only ~2/3 the wait time instead, since I just received an email saying that they had sent it, and now have to wait another week or so for USPS.

I was thinking of this card as being just a disposable card, to be tossed when spent, but the email spoke of it as being a means to receive other rebates. However, I have never seen this kind of rebate method being used before. Has anyone else?

Nope. But I would wait and see what they offered before passing judgement. Not saying your are, just saying see what you get first.

Last time I used one of these cards it wouldn't allow use over the amount on the card so I tried once and it declined. I called the next day and the company said it should be good. Tried again and had to have the checker run the up limit on the card first and then pay the difference in cash..... awkward !

I have had a few of those. I just received a $20 and $30 Visa rebate card from Norton. They are Debit cards and after 6 Months there is a $3 a month charge, so you need to use them before then. I had a few of them last year and used them at Best Buy on one purchase. They ran each card for its full amount and I paid the remainder with my own credit card. I waited a while after using them and then put them in my shredder. Just read the enclosed paperwork. I much prefer a check as keeping up with the balance on these cards is a PIA. I try to use the entire balance on the card at one time to keep it simple.

Basically it works like a re-loadable cash card. If you get any other rebates from X company, you can opt to have them load that card with your rebate once it is processed. Sometimes fees are charged on inactive cards, as phone man said.

"rush order" on a rebate is to cut down processing time, yes.

Some of these cards, the terms allow you to take the card to any bank & cash them in for the full cash value, just by showing identification.

I have gotten some from OCZ and Office Depot/Norton and none of these were re-loadable. I just used my $20 one to buy something at Newegg for $19.99. I have a $30 one also so I may go by the bank and see if I can get $30.01 from the two cards.

I hardly ever buy hardware or software without a rebate. My favorite places are Newegg and Office Depot as they always have sales and rebates.

After all this time, I finally got that rebate card used last Friday, while buying groceries at Walmart. I had tried to use it before, with exactly the same cashier as before, but it got rejected the first time. I later learned that the reason was that the cashier attempted to charge the entire sum of the groceries, instead of the rebate amount as I had instructed him. So this time I emphasized the manner in which to do it, and he merrily requested that I sign that little electronic device that they have for such things. I then noticed that the total due hadn't seemed to change, and when I mentioned it, he checked and with a "shocked" expression, that he had only entered $2.22, instead of $22. That was corrected, but the bottomline is that I agree with the person that said it previously, I will never consent to nor request a rebate in this manner again!

I've had a number of $100 rebate cards from Verizon for rebates on cell phones and my son has gotten quite a few $50 cards from his employer for bonuses. There is a number on the back you can call that will tell you what amount is left on the card and as long as what you are buying is equal to or less than the value of the card, you're fine. As has already been said, if the amount is more than the value of the card, you can ask the cashier to charge that amount then pay the difference with cash or even another card. It really isn't that big of a deal so I don't understand the attitude where you say "I will never consent to nor request a rebate in this manner again!". For the most part, you can use it just like a credit card.

The only part that you said that I can address is your statement regarding my attitude toward this form of rebate. If you are satisfied with this manner of rebates, that is fine...obviously I am not, and if you can't understand that, it would be a waste of time for me to try to explain.

I guess you missed in my post where I said "As has already been said..." before I reiterated some stuff. You also chose to ignore the new info I included.

The reason it would be a waste of time for you to explain it to me is because you can't explain why you are ranting about something so inconsequential.

I got one of those rebate cards when I purchased my EVGA Nvidia GT 210 and took me a couple of months to get the rebate and a couple of more to use it but spent it at the local Computer parts retailer on more parts. Then when I was planning my new system and originally purchasing an EVGA HD 570 with same type rebate the following happened after I cut out the box UPC bar-code and remitted for rebate. The card was DOA on arrival and at first the retailer did not want to replace defective card due to UPC bar-code missing from packaging but did replace it with a supposedly better higher priced ASUS card, However the missing UPC bar-code cost me the difference in price as the retailer was originally going to replace at no charge and I am still awaiting the rebate.
