Hi

Has anybody upgraded from vista to 7 & is it worth it, I'm v tired of the vista slowness. I use briefcase to keep a set of documents upto date between my home comp & my laptop. when i open the briefcase on my laptop to work on a document it takes 12 minutes to open the file so i can use a document, this is v annoying. Will 7 be quicker than vista. I use a acer 2930 with 2.0 core 2 duo, 2 gig memeory so its not an old system

Thanks

Steve, I Beta tested Windows7 on my Vista Ultimate computer. I had no problems with the Beta or RC versions. I now have Windows7 RTM running full time on this computer and still no problems! I did a clean install ...
I have more ram than you do tho'

Windows 7 is on par with Windows XP (if not better) when it comes to speed and performance as long as you're on hardware capable of running it.

Yes, and yes. It boots faster, opens office faster, uses less resources, and is rock solid. Think I like it <g>

Windows 7 is much faster at deleting large amount of files off hard drives from my experiences even with the earlier beta versions. Vista would sit there and chug away like it was pull a 2 ton bowling ball behind it.

I have read on other threads that 7 is quicker at start up & shut down, but is it quicker at opening folders, as 12 minutes to open my briefcase folder is ridiculous, & v v v annoying my main reason for upgrading would be to speed up thinks like folder opening.

Thanks steve208

I am sure my win7 is quicker, but still a lot is dependent on CPU & Ram speed & size ! ;)

Are you running Windows Defender? It sounds like you might possibly have an application that wants to inspect your briefcase before opening it. Is your 'briefcase' on your desktop, or in a sub-folder?
