Hello, I am having a small issue. I usually use multiple monitors and keep various programs open on each of the monitors. However, I've recently had to switch to only 1 monitor. The problem I'm having is that VLC Media Player now opens off screen where the old monitor used to be. I can move it back to the main screen by hovering over the taskbar icon, right clicking the thumbnail and selecting move and hitting an arrow key, or by maximizing it at which point it jumps to the right screen and I can drag it down or by making it active and hitting Winkey+right or left arrow. However it's not remembering that I moved it to the main screen when I shut it down. Every time I reopen it it opens on the wrong screen. Does anybody know a way to make it open on the main screen permanently, as it's very annoying having to do this every time I open it?

Hi Kylethedarkn, welcome to the Forum.

You say the you have now had to switch to one monitor. Is this the only monitor connected to the computer. If you still have 2 monitors connected, even though it is switched off it will still show as a monitor.

What do you see if you Right Click on the Desktop & select Screen Resolution. Does this show only one monitor.

I saw that solution before and went to try it but there was no folder in my appdata roaming or local folders for vlc. However I did find a solution. If you open vlc and go to tools>preferences and then reset preferences, it will open on the main monitor again. I'm assuming they changed the location of the preferences cache with a newer version so that it's no longer in appdata for the current user. I'm surprised windows doesn't have a universal setting or registry key or something for window position built in. It does for most built in programs but not for third pary ones.

Glad to hear you have found a solution, good work. I think most of the problems with 3rd party programs is the program itself & not Windows. The programs that religiously follow MS rules don't seem to have any problems, it's the odd one that doesn't that seems to cause us users irritating issues.
