Hi all,

I'm hoping someone here will be able to solve this problem that I've had for over a year now. Ive researched and done every possible "solution" that I have found on the internet and nothing so far has fixed it. Here's the problem:

I bought a new latop which has Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) installed. While im playing music (mainly mp3s) whether it be in Winamp, WMP, any program--the volume on songs will fluctuate. One second it will be loud and the next it will go real low and then loud again. It sounds as if its trying level the sound or something. I've done the "solutions" that I've found online, I.E. Under Sounds>Communications>"Do Nothing" -didnt work. I've also checked "Disable all enhancements" under speaker properties. It does seem to help by doing this BUT (and a huge but) then the music sounds terrible. It loses bass and just sounds terrible. I've also tried updating the driver, tried older drivers and nothing seems to work. I'm no expert but I do think it has something to do with Windows 7. Ive had Windows XP, Vista and never had this problem with playing my music before. Also from what I've read online most think the problem is something to do with Windows 7.

Here are my specs:

*Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
*Conexant Pebble High Definition SmartAudio-Driver Version 4.98.60.50

If anyone can help me with this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Does the Conexant audio come with its own control panel? I seem to remember I had one on my laptop before but removed it later.
I've never experienced this issue myself. Your guess about communications settings was a good one - see if maybe your microphone is inadvertently enabled and still picking up sound.

Does this do it with a headset? If you haven't tried a headset get one or borrow one and try it. Also, does this do it if you play a commercial audio CD?

It's not a "Windows 7" problem. If it were, everyone would be complaining. Win 7 uses the exact same sound as Vista - actually Windows 7 is just "vista improved".

Since this is a new PC, if we can't resolve it you will have to go back to the PC Vendor for warranty support.

Yes, it does come with a program called "SmartAudio". I have also opened that program and tinkered with every setting there. Nothing I did worked. I came across this Solved: Attention T510 owners: Audio / sound volum... - Lenovo Community but I could not figure out exactly how to do what he was saying. It could very well be a problem with program as he describes. I was going to uninstall it but I cant find a way how because it is not in the uninstall programs.

Do you think it could be this causing the problem?
