Volume control eliminated with headphones, not speakers

I have Win 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.

I got new speakers, and they work good, can control the volume on them nicely.

But, as soon as I plug in the headphones into the speakers, the volume stays the same no matter what I do. As in, I can control it through windows, but it's always pretty low, and I can't boost it up through the speaker, even when I turn it to max.

What kind of speakers? and how are they connected? Through the speaker jack (green) or via USB?
Same with headset.

Speaker is Edifier, this: Simple USB Bookshelf Speakers Edifier R12U Headphones Input

It is connected both through USB and speaker jack.

Headphone plugs into the speaker itself. There's nothing wrong with the headphone at all, it works as it should in other speakers or devices.

The issue is the volume control through the speaker knob. It works perfectly without headphones plugged in, but as soon you plug in any (I've tried multiple) headphones, the volume goes down, and the knob can not control the level of it at all.

Scanning over the description on the web site, the problem would appear to be in the speakers and not the PC. Have you tried contacting Edifier about this?

I have, but no response yet...they are brand new speakers though, can't imagine it's just some defect. But then I can't think of what setting to change, I have gone through the usual updating drivers etc. route, everything I can possibly see in audio settings too.

The sound is amplified in the speaker's audio amp. If its not also amplifying the audio for the headset its either a defect or a design flaw.
