I don't know what's possible but it works on my HP2133 mini-note. You might check Notification Area Icons and see if there's a setting there that helps. I have show all icons and notications selected.

I've tried to find some settings for it, but no luck so far. The volume icon is showing, but i want a number/graphic that pops up on the screen when i increase or decrease/mute the volume, so i know the amount. On vista, Hp quick launch button (software) made this possible, but that doesn't install correctly on win7.

Edit: Nvm, found a never version of hp quick launch buttons, and it's working now.
