Hi. I have a friends Compaq laptop running Windows 7 that I just upgraded from 2GB of memory to 8GB of memory. I also restored it to the factory state. Before restoring, and also after restoring, it constantly gives the message "Waiting for task host window" when shutting down. Any idea why this is happening and what can be done to correct it? Thank you very much!

With MS Sysinternals Process Explorer you can hover the mouse pointer over a process to see detailed info.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653
It's a "portable" program, doesn't get installed.

My screen shows what i see when i hover over the taskhost.exe process.
I see 3 Tasks running, no shutdown problems here.

Do you see other tasks running under the taskhost.exe process ?

Thanks for the reply. Screen shot below. CPU usage goes to 100% quite often with a fresh install of Windows and that's about it. No antivirus even installed yet. All Windows updates have been installed.

I don't know what HotStart User Agent is, but you can search for info about that to see if that might cause the shutdown problem.

I see mscorsvw.exe is running, from what i know that's for Net Framework re-optimization (after Net Framework is updated).
That might cause CPU usage to go to 100%.
