Solved Want my Windows 7 Starter back.... PLEASE HELP!!!!

My understanding is that Windows 7 Starter Edition is NOT available on the discs that are purchased at retail. It is only installed by manufacturers. That's probably why there isn't an iso readily available.

Update: My bad...I confused it with Office Starter Edition. Windows 7 Starter Edition is available on the same discs as the other versions.

I'm suprised this is debated anymore. It is on all full x86 DVDs. It is not on the x64, as Starter x64 doesn't exist. When you create a combined full install disc, you get 9 choices...the typical 4 versions, for x86 and x64 each...and then Starter for x86.

could someone maybe e-mail me a link to a starter iso? or maybe if they were nice enough send me one of their already unlocked ones? [email protected] once again thanks guys, actually.. I've only just started to do this kind of stuff on computers... so If someone could maybe give me a brief explanation on how to unlock a regular windows 7 iso file to get that icefg file, or whatever it is... so that i could do it myself? that would also be a big help

The easiest method I've found and one which always works for me is to install UltraISO trial version. http://www.ezbsystems.com/ultraiso/download.htm

On the File tab, open ISO.

On the Bootable tab, Write Disk Image.

On the writing screen which opens, make sure the USB stick shows in the drop down menu window, and the ISO file is listed correctly beneath that.

Then click Format, then Write.

Now boot the stick on one-time BIOS boot menu finding the flash stick under USB or HD's.

On installer's first screen, press Shift + F10 to open a Command Line, type:
DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (confirm this is the HD where you want Win7)
CLEAN ALL (takes about an hour per 320gb)
EXIT

Close Command box, click Install Now, select Custom Install, use Drive Options to create partition(s) as desired, format before installing to first OS partition - ignore the 100mb boot partition it creates, it puts the Repair console conveniently on the F8 Advanced Boot Tools menu.

I'm guessing you are using the Microsoft tool, so is your flash drive plugged in and recognized? Does it have a drive letter? There should be a refresh button.
