Okay, so I'm sure people here have heard of Jolicloud... If not it's... I would say a wonderful operating system, because it let me do everything i wanted to do that windows wouldn't let me do... BUT! Just recently i have decided i want my Windows 7 Starter back... Now I have posted a thread on Jolicloud's forums asking how to do so.. But it has now been over a day and a half and I'm getting a little worried they won'y reply... So i have resorted to asking help on how to get my Windows 7 Starter back... A little info on my netbook... ORIGINALLY had Windows 7 Starter, it's a 32 bit. or was? idk what it means... The type of netbook is an Acer One Aspire 532h-2780... no dvd drive so i would need a iso file and write it to a usb stick which i have (4gb) I also have another computer which i could use if i needed, it's a Windows XP Home Edition, i don't think any other info about it would be needed if so just ask.. Please help me get my Windows back... And trust me... If u ever get another operating system.... DUAL BOOT!!!! I highly regret not doing so...

Hello chrisneedsHELP, welcome to Seven Forums!

Does the netbook have a factory recovery partition or did you delete/remove it to install that other, whatever it is, OS?

Thank you :) and sadly no... While installing the new OS, it forced me to wipe the hard drive... All partitions were deleted... I believe it used to have a recovery partition though... would it be possible to restore or recover it? or somehow get e new one?

Have a thorough look through this information below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media; if you can find an exact Windows version installation media that the PC shipped with you can do a clean install using the activation key on the COA sticker attached to the PC though it may require a robo-call to MS to sort the OEM batch-key.

How to Activate Windows 7 by Phone

If you can't find an exact same version, you could use the info in this tutorial to create an "all versions" installer of any version Windows installer, to install using the same method I posted above.

Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create

After you have made backups of everything you care to save, the best method is to do a complete wipe (secure erase) of the entire Hard Disk Drive first, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old drivers/programs, giving you the best possible space to install Windows to.

I have never heard of Jolicloud but you have caught my attention. What can you do with it that you can't with Windows 7?

First big problem... It's a netbook and it came with Windows 7 Starter already installed onto it... It didn't come with a disk or anything and i have no way of getting an original iso off of my netbook seeing as it no longer has any version of windows of it nor the recover partition...

And you should google it brotherboard, I like it, except I'm not sure if i will ever use it again or not... Seeing as Windows may be ab;e to get virus's... It's much easier when you want to do stuff you've been doing for years... Maybe if i had been born into everyone using Jolicloud instead of Windows I would keep it... But instead it's the opposite... Oh well, I like both so I'm content with Windows

You wiped the hard drive when you installed the new Jolicloud OS. There's no getting back what was on there. You'll need to order a Windows 7 Starter recovery disk to reinstall it. Call your netbook manufacturer to get one. Or, you can buy a full OEM or retail disc somewhere.

You don't know anywhere you could get a Windows Starter from, or any version that you could use this tutorial to create an "all versions" installer; forum rules don't allow the posting of download links.

Just Google it, since you have a Product Key you only need the ISO file.

Be sure to the comments carefully to make sure nothing is added to download, rightclick scan ISO with your AV and Malwarebytes before unlocking all versions (if necessary) and burning to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Here are tips to get a purrfect clean reinstall: Clean Reinstall steps

It isn't illegal to distribute an unmodified ISO, you know?

Go look on My Digital Life's forums for an Windows 7 Starter ISO. You should have a product key printed on your laptop somewhere.

Downloading an ISO isn't illegal; Microsoft generally provides them, actually. Cracking/modifying the ISO is illegal, however.

In ten seconds of Googling, you'll find legit, Microsoft sponsored download sites for the .isos. You can quickly turn one of them into a universal disc and then use it to make an install flash drive. Activate with your key from the netbook once you have it up and running, and you'll be fine, and legit.

That's why we provided multiple links to show how you can download any version and unlock all versions in it to install Starter with your Product Key on COA sticker.

Just run this tool on the ISO: Ei.cfg Removal Utility Lets You Use Any Product Key With Your Windows 7 Disc

then burn it to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed, or to install from flash stick: isntall UltraISO trial version, on File tab open ISO, on Bootable tab Write Disk Image, Format, Write. Boot under USB or HD's.

Once again, I'll give you the steps if you care to read them for getting a perfect clean reinstall of factory OEM: Clean Reinstall steps

but does this tool work on linux?

Settle down, open your eyes, and read what people are trying to tell you. Any version of Windows 7 x86 contains Starter on the disc. We're way past the point this should be considered common knowledge by now.

Send me a PM if you don't have your answer, but a quick Google site will bring you to the legit .isos.

If you are currently running Linux, then find a Linux tool that will open a .iso file, allow you to delete one file, the ei.cfg file, and then resave the .iso. Linux also has some tools to write that .iso to a flash drive as well, I believe.

If not, just use a second computer or a friends computer. Easy solution, problem solved, no need to get snippy.
