Wd external hardrive help, turns on but doesn't show

Hi, can someone please help me, I have all important files on my external hard drive and now it doesn't want to work. I connect it and the computer sounds like it has something connected but it does not show up on my computer or anywhere else I connect it. The light turns on and it flashes every 5 to 10 seconds but nothing. After a couple of seconds the computer makes a sound like if its disconnected but its still connected to the computer. It also makes a weird sound when I connect it for a couple of seconds and then it stops....I dunno what to do! I tried everything and nothing! Tried different cables, different computers and nothing, please anyone help!

Can you explain this in more detail?

Is this an "desktop" external drive with it's own power supply, or a "portable" external hard drive that gets its power from the PC over USB?

Yes thank you for your help, the noise is like a beeping noise, but really low and it only lasts a couple of seconds. Its a portable device that it gets power when I connect it to my PC.

Please post a screenshot of Windows Disk Management with only the problem external drive connected.

I had really bad luck with WD drives last year, in that three failed on me, one only a few months old.

If I were you, I would go to the WD site, download the drive health check utility -- and run it against the drive.

If it reports major errors, and the drive is still under warranty, you might be able to get a free replacement.

I had mine for years now and it was fine, I had it for about 5 years or more and it worked fine. When I bought it was $110 on special lol now I can get one on eBay for half the price =/
