How about posting that in the thread I just gave you a link to so this one doesn't keep getting thrown off topic.

I started a new thread in this forum this morning under General Discussion, and have been sticking to it "Can I Use a Win7HP ISO File for a Clean Install of an Older Vista Sys?. That was a mistake because I should have used General Discussion in the Vista Forum. I apologize and don't want to cause any confusion, but I've been staying on-topic for the Acer clean install issue here, not the Compaq mess.

On the subject of the Acer clean install, I will have to change the boot sequence for the notebook because it did not come with a built-in CD/DVD drive...I'll be using an attached drive to boot the burned .iso DVD...is that a problem?

Thank you.

That post wasn't for you, I already tried to point out your other thread to latecomer.

You can use a flash drive to install as well, or the external drive if you want.

This is getting way off the easy track here.

One step at a time. First, that wasn't latecomers post with the clean install links.

This is all you need,

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html

Using the product key you already own.

The first step is to download and save the ISO file (your desktop is fine) then burn it to a DVD or flash drive as stated in step 2.

The ISO you want to download is the Home Premium x86: X17-58996.iso from the link in step 1.

Once you have those steps done or need help with those post back, forget everything else right now.

Good Morning,

I have the DVD burned with the correct .iso file and would like to begin the step process.

Thank you.

While I'm waiting for the finish to a correct and complete Factory OEM Clean Install on my notebook, I'd like to use a USB webcam with my desktop temporarily. I have what I believe to be a Microsoft 300 (3000?) webcam and software labeled Microsoft LifeCam 1.4...is there a downloadable utility that can positively identify the manufacturer and model of the webcam, because a Properties check in device manager shows that info to be unknown, and the cam's appearance in devmgr is accompanied with a yellow question mark.

If this question is best started as a new thread in another forum, please advise.

Thank you.

There are three versions of a Microsoft 3000 webcam,

You can try one of these,

Software Downloads | Microsoft Hardware

Or just try updating right from the properties tab in device manager.

I'm surprised windows didn't automatically detect it and download the drivers automatically.

Thanks derekimo...it got me to a phone call with free hardware support when I posed my question, so I now have a well-working webcam, the LifeCam VX-6000. I'm using it on the rehabbed Compaq in my other post -- gregrocker finally got me over the clean install hump fairly easily after I burned another DVD using imgburn at 4x speed. Now I want to continue to clean install using the factory OEM choice I'm presented with when I boot from the .iso file. I'm not sure I followed the instructions exactly last night for the Compaq, other thread, so are there any cautions you might give before I move to step 2 and change the boot sequence? Or will the burned DVD boot even if I haven't changed the sequence? ... something about tapping any key to begin the process? That didn't happen on my first attempt 2 nights ago, so gregrocker suspected a bad burn and thus the second DVD creation, which worked and I have a very nicely running, if old, desktop.

Greg is a master at installations, sounds like he is covering you pretty good, I'd stick to his instructions to avoid confusion from multiple responses.

sbuxman. you have the upgrade DVD's for upgrading to win7, do you have the original factory DVD's. or can you do the factory default restore by pressing the FN key and the F10 key together to boot back to vista. the two DVD's you posted, them are for upgrading vista to win7. for them to work you must have the factory vista installed.

@sbuxman, just keep following Gregs advice, he has been successful in helping with thousands of installs, as you have seen already. :)
