First let me say I like IE8 much better than IE7.

I have two issues. I have made webpages for people over a period of time using Dreamweaver. The pages are generally very simple and nothing hight tech. Some use a password to access the webpage.

Here are issues:

Pages without a password requirement do NOT display the page, but does display the code for the page. NOT very usefull I would say.

Pages requiring a password, will show a popup that tells the user that a response is needed to access the webpage, but to do this, in the tool bar you have to tell IE this is a trusted site. When OK is clicked, IE8 sends the user to never never land which what the Webpage would have done when a bad password is entered. So how do you tell IE that the Webpage is "Trusted"? As it stands now it is a catch 22.

Any enlightment would be appreciated.

I haven't used Dreamweaver myself, but is it IE8 compliant?

If it works in IE7 compatibility mode then maybe you could add an IE7 emulation meta tag to your page header.

I am not sure Dreamweaver CS4 is IE8 compliant or not, it installed and ran fine on Win 7.

I found it weird that on the more info page:

All IE's from 5 to 8 were listed for emulation except IE6, which happens to be my favorite.

I found that the Meta statement alone will not fix the problem.

After playing around for a while, I found that taking the password code off the page, then in IE8 open the page.

Now go Tools --> Internet Options --> Security Tab
Highlight the "Trusted sites", then click the site button.

Here come the BS:
highlight the website url and click the "Add" button. Now we get an error statement saying the url has to start with https//.
Note the "s" after the https

The first time I did that it added the page without the "s" and then the page worked as it was designed. The second page I tried to add to the "Trusted sites" gave me error statement and all since then have done the same. With the "s" in https//, the trusted site is wrong and it does not work.

I am sure that error has been in IE since day one, I had just never used it before.

How do I enter the correct address without the "s" for the Trusted sites".

Click on Tools and select Internet Options. Select the Security tab.

In Trusted sites, clear the checkmark Require server verification...

Thanks Dwarf that worked like a charm after removing the pw from webpage. After making it a trusted site, then everything went smoothly.
