Solved Website email hyperlink trouble

Greets from Japan ...New computer with Windows 7 and latest IE version . When I click on a email contact hyperlink on websites I am not able to access automatically via Windows Live Mail which my old HP with the same 7 and IE has no problem with . A message pops up in Japanese , something about the mail client ( I ) hasn't correctly installed something or other etcetc...Anyway , I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of correcting some settings in either Live Mail or IE . Anybody have any idea what's up ?

No expert sushi but maybe it is the IE version as it is up to 11 now which one have you got? I keep IE9 on my main machine because I have to as work doesn't use higher and to get payroll is the only reason I use it.

my other machines the 7 & one 8 has IE10 and the other 8 has IE11 as far as i know I did have problems at first when 10 came out. The 11 machine I haven't used as much yet.

I am using IE 10 with Windows 7 - exactly the same combo as my 4 year old HP downstairs with which I don't have this problem .

Re-install your Windows Live Mail, and set it as default mail client.

This problem has existed since I bought the new computer a few months ago , but I was unaware of it until recently when I was planning a trip to Tokyo and accessing various sites from which I wanted to make direct contact via hyperlinks . Sometimes the email address was the link so no problemo but many Japanese sites just have an INQUIRY hyperlink so there is no way to know the email address .

The settings are as from the factory as I have changed nothing . Livemail is default mail client ; I have checked that .

Admittedly I am a computer dummy , using the PC for just basic tasks .

I'll see if I can translate that message that pops up . Technical jargon so not easy .

Here is the translation :

I would go with what Gekie said mate and uninstall it and reinstall it - the WLM a pain but has to be worth a shot.

Once I translated the Japanese to English , and did a google search with that info I found a link to Microsoft Community concerning this problem , and took this advice : " fix it in less than a minute okay so what you need to do is go into control panel and your going to see veiw by category and you change it to large icons then click default programs then click set default programs then you click windows live mail then at the bottom click set this program as default and then it will work with no problems . "

It works . Apparently Windows 7 , unlike Vista and XP , does not set a default mail client . You must do/choose yourself .

Good so you are sorted now I haven't used Vista or XP for many years now so had no idea. I know that I do have two email accounts and when I install 7 or 8 I have to use my current mail address to sign in to Live and the account is therefore installed I suppose.

But it is handy to know for the future that I know that I have to add the old one that people will insist on using still so thanks for the heads up
