Weird display on my screen, kind of striped view

So when my sister was using the computer all of the sudden the screen display changed. The program icons seem to be stripy, the screen is darker and somehow green-like on the white parts. To me it kind of reminds of comic book drawings , those spotty/stripy backgrounds. My graphics card is nvidia geforce gt 430

It sounds like the monitor is on its last legs. Have you checked the graphics card? Is it clean and free of dust?

This can be caused by several things.
Bad driver
Unknown resource using all gpu time.
OC'ed GPU
Faulty GPU
Faulty monitor

Reinstall the GPU driver and see what you get.
