wep vs Norton

Hello
At home I have wpa behind a router and use MSE.
My daughter is allowing me the scurity key to access her network but she has wep with Verizon and will not change even though I offerd to do it.

Would you reinstall Norton that comes free with Comcast to use on her network or continue to use MSE with the Win 7 native firewall?

I totally agree with the comment on Norton, as I do on moving up from WEP to stronger security, such as WPA or preferably WPA-2. In addition, I would utilise the MAC filtering on the router so that only authorised devices can connect (meaning that if both the SSID and password match, then there will still not be a connection unless the MAC address (which is unique) of the device also matches).

WEP is better than nothing but almost nothing.. its not secure at all.

as for norton antivirus i use it and dont see any problems with it.. I feel it runs faster and smoother than MSE (i use MSE on few other pcs) I was lucky or what that my norton antivirus (not internet security i dont see the need in overpriced functions except antivirus) is running without problems, but i have had some problems with mse like bad update that hit with false positive every time i opened google, disappearing of status icon, longer startups etc..
why some people hate norton so much?
i know that norton from like 2007 or so was resource hog, that was hard to remove and slowed down pc considerably but the new versions from like 2010 i think is blazing fast and simple to setup..
there is no 100% secure antivirus but why the hate?

I don't think I can use the pc at their house as they will not allow me to seure their router as mine is at home; WPA 2, aes, etc.
I don't get it but have to repect it as it is their house.

Regarding Norton, I get it for free but replaced it with MSE.
Norton has its good points, really.
It is not what it use to be. Resources are not drained as they used to be. They have a good firewall and I never got malware while using it for 3 years. I did find it does too much. Example, if you want to run system restore you have to turn off tamper protection or it will not work. There are 3rd party conflicts.
One scary feature is they have a registry cleaner that some people not familiar with the reg might just run thinking if it is there it is ok to use it.
I find MSE to be simpler and I have not gotten any malware even with the native Win 7 firewall. I don't want to have to play with the security suite.

Many 3rd party anti virus programs protect your system. They just don't play well with Windows 7 and other programs you use. They cause all kinds of other problems with your system. To many to list. That is why many recommend MSE. It is simple to use and plays well with Windows 7 and other programs. It also protects you as well as any other anti virus in my opinion. I use MSE and the built in firewall with no problems.

I agree.
Perhaps I will use it in their network with WEP and hope MSE with its firewall does the job. That's what imaging is all about.

I am not up on my networking; if they have an issue in the ir network as in one of their pcs has a bug, will I inherit it?
At least they perform full Norton scans.
