I'm supposed to be setting up a ethernet point of sale terminal (credit card terminal) for someone who is using a "Static IP Address"

They sent me this information saying I would need this to setup the terminal to run on their internet connection:

192.168.0.221
.222
.223

Gateway Access 192.168.0.2
DNS 192.1680.0.2

Anybody know what part of this information needs to be set as the IP address in the terminal?

Before this setup, all I had to do is plug the terminal into any live internet connection (terminal has an ethernet port for internet connection) and it worked great.

I will be shipping this terminal to the merchant, and they want it setup for plug-n-play set up concerning the internet connection.

Anybody have any ideas or tips about what part out of the info above to enter in to the terminal as it's IP adfdress?

The first # you list is the IP address. Where`s your subnet mask ?

So, 192.168.0.221 is what I have to enter?

I have no idea what a "subnet mask" is... much less how to answer that question.

You could in theory set it as anything within 192.168.0.### as long as its not already used.

Why are YOU doing it then ? Doesn`t the company have field technicians to do it ?
As that`s what I do.

And yes, that is the ip they want you to use. Why they gave you 3, I have no idea.
You have to enter a subnet mask.

Looking at the default gateway my best guess is subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

Are you setting up 3 terminals?

Also for informational purposes. "Plug-in-play" should be referred to "DHCP"

I would contact them and get more information though.

Yeah... me!

We've been doing dial-up for years and have just been able to get in to doing ethernet and wireless terminals.

Support is pretty much up to me... which is fine with me actually cause I get the chance to learn and make me brain bigger :geek:

Actually, one of our independent distributors is going to install, so I'll send some instructions I found for doing this with this particular terminal.

He can play with different static IP settings if need be.

I'm setting up two terminals, so I would enter 192.168.0.221 in to the first one,
and 192.168.0.222 in to the second one, right?

You never mentioned you were doing 3 so ya , enter the 3 ip`s they gave you. You`ll only know if they`ll work after they`re set up and support says all is aok.
