What Age do you need to be to buy "M" Rated Games?

Hello,
I was wanting to know how old you need to be to buy
M rated games. Ive heard its 18+ and ive heard its 17+
Ive also heard that it depends on where you buying it from.
What is the real age you need to be?

In the US, it's 17.

This is why I'm glad that I am 17 and will be 18 very soon. Only problem is I do not have an ID, but hopefully I'll be getting a learner's permit soon. The only reason that I did not get when I turned 16 is because I did not have the chance.

I think there is M 18+ rating but I think most games developers tone down the game content to be able to use the M 17+ rating to make the games easier to market and sell to a larger audience than an "adult only" product

Yep, you're thinking of the AO rating, which is very rarely seen because as you said, it won't sell to as large of an audience.

Actually, in some states, you can apply for an ID Card to be able to verify your age if you want. (I say some because I haven't looked up all states to see if they have this available but I would figure they do)

Yeah, I've known of this option but it costs money, and too much to make it worth getting followed by getting a permit. Plus I've been buying my games online now through Steam. Also, I live in the state of New York in a small town that isn't worth mentioning
