Hello all. Just this morning when I turned on my laptop I get 2 new updates

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB954430)
Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems (KB973688)

As we all may or not know it took quite some time for Windows 7 to get a Service Pack 1 Update & now we apparently have a Service Pack 2 Update all while Microsoft plans for Microsoft Windows 8.1. Are we gonna see some extra stability added to our Windows 7 systems? Any thoughts or questions? I decided to hold off researching this further because I'm curious as to what the community has to say.

How long has it been since you ran Windows update?

Those two updates were discussed back in February of 2010

Cosmic lol. I always run updates. I'm always up to date & manually check at least once or twice a week. That's just my pseudo OCD. What's weird is I run a fresh install every 4-6 months due to clutter & nothing like a fresh install anyway. I just ran a fresh install about a month ago & got all 100+ updates in the first 1 or 2 days. Never in the past have I noticed these 2 random updates coming in a month later by themselves like some sort of update phantom. Could these be related to other software that rely on the components being updated such as the "LGMobile Support Tool" I installed? I never installed that until just yesterday? I had to unroot my brother's phone & am learning what the tools are for his phone.

Both of those updates are for "Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0", not for Windows 7. There currently is no service pack 2 for Windows 7 and Microsoft has made it quite clear that there won't be.

As for system stability, I am having no issues. Windows 7 is the most stable version of Windows I have ever used.

That's an update for "Microsoft XML Core Services". They called it service pack 2, but it's a purely cosmetic choice.
There are Service packs 2 for other stuff as well. Just another way to call a patch.

Download and install. End of the story.

I see. Weird I've never seen these updates before today. I wonder what the anomaly is...

Weird. It must me software that requires a certain part of the OS & the patch only truncates when needed.

It would be nice if they just called it a patch lol. Got me all excited for nothing. Not surprised however. I literally jumped for joy when W8 was announced & that's something no one should ever have to see.
