I knew that I would get a big turnout with the title that I used. Now that I have an audience here is my story.
Bought my computer in Dec 08. It came with a 3year free subscription to Mcafee. I liked Mcafee. November 09, I installed Windows Seve, at the about the same time that I joined the Forum. Well all the rave reviews about MSE made me switch.
After the switch, I made a full scan just to test, since I knew that I was a careful surfer and scanned once a week with Mcafee. Well, I found 5 Java Exploit Malware and one Trojan; I was shocked.
I also found that my computer was able to boot faster and I did not have any lags, like I did when Mcafee scanned or updated. I also found, althouhgh nominal, my ram usage was down.
Maybe, the title of this post is a bit misleading, but MSE is better than the two others that I have had; Mcafee and Norton on my prior computer. MSE is free, too. You may want to give it a try, I think that you will be pleased.

By any chance do you recall the Java exploits? I just discovered 3 of them on my machine with MSSE

For a while I couldn't reinstall MSSE for some stupid issue which I resolved this weekend - In it's place I was running Malware Bytes and Threatfire (2 other AV/MW programs that have seemed to receive good reviews)

but alas they never caught those exploits - But also this weekend I updated to the IE9 beta (out of curiosity - I'm very much happy with my FF), so I'm wondering if those exploits came through with beta, if possible.

I quarantined the exploits but have since removed them

Now I'm wondering, how effective are Threatfire and MBAM ?!?

I thought... oh no, here we go again. LOL. Press 1 for which AV is best, press 2 for which video card is best, press 3 for which mobo is best, press 4 for which wireless router is best, press 5 for which browser is best...

Jacee, what surprised me was not the fact that Mcafee missed some things, but the fact that I had anything. I really do not go anwhere where I could become a victim. I even have WOT, Malwarebytes and WinPatrol. I was very surprised.

oh no !

not yet another "what´s best-thread"... :shock::devil:

:D

MSE REALLY works, yesterday i found a trojan on a friends Mini-PC when i scanned it with EAM.

i copied the file containing the trojan to a USB-memory and connected it to my own PC, as i wanted to double-check it on VirusTotal.
in my filemanager i selected the USB-memory, i right-clicked with the mouse and was 1 second away from clicking on "Scan with MSE" in the menu, but MSE caught the trojan BEFORE i had time to start a scan on the file.
and, yes it´s a REAL trojan !
i double-checked it on VirusTotal, it´s a trojan that some A/V´s like fx. Avira, Avast, ESET, F-Prot & SUPERAntiSpyware doesn´t detect.

Norton re-wrote their program in 2008 for 2009 and that's when I starting using Norton again. Never looked back. It hasn't actually had to do anything but be light. Which it has. My sister is one of 'those' people, the kind that really needs protecting and in the last year or two that she has been using it, it has done a flawless job. Norton is always at the top of real-world tests (along with certain others depending on the specific test.)
