What are the benefits on defragmentation?

The State of the art in defragging are the free Auslogics defraggers. Never takes more than 20 minutes, more like 5 if done regularly, plus you get a map to watch the progress and distribution on the drive of your various files. I do other things while it runs without slowdown. That and CCleaner (also state of the art) keep it clean as a whistle.

Try and compare. I've never used Defraggler just heard of it lately. Been using Auslogics for ten years (Disk and Registry) about monthly, and our computers never bog down.

The way I explain it to less experienced noobs than me:

Without defragging, you are in a huge library which has no file system looking for a book. Defragged tightly, the books are all in alphabetical order.

There have been several online tests showing that there really isn't anything needed over the built-in defragger. I don't use one, because it's one less piece of software I need to install and worry about. I agree with using CCleaner, but I haven't actually left a third party defragger installed (beyond testing) since the XP days. There isn't anything I've needed that other apps have...that the built-in defragger can't do.

That's somewhat true...but a better example would be if you needed five books. A defragmented system puts all five of those needed books together on the same shelf, so they are quick to find with minimal work. A fragmented system puts those same five books scattered around the library. You know where to find them, but it takes you longer and requires more work to gather all the books you need to complete your trip.
