That's because with judicious buying over a short period of time we can get a better machine for less money! Many items can be robbed from older machines with no loss of eventual performance.

I've tried to put together some items on my overclockers uk basket for £400 (same as the laptop I am using), and sure, the specs were better than my laptop, then i realized i hadn't included a keyboard, mouse, monitor and OS which overall would have cost about £250 more

Yep, I have found that to be very true. I'm on my third custom build, and will never go back to buying a pre-built computer again (other than laptops, of course).
