Hi,
I was running raid 1 for 3 yrs on my internal HDDs data drives, (two pairs, and a SSD for C drive) (C drive is Acronis backed up by the way) as a safety net for if a HDD failed, the raided one had the exact same files and folders on it. A recent memory stick failure knocked it all out of sync, 1 week copying files off, then format all HDDs, then resynch, and it put up a fight, got new raid card, was sick from birth, so two lots of copying onto PC, 1 month of hell, so I ditched the raid !

I have paired HDDs, same make size etc as a result of the raid, same size partitions on both, one has two partitions each 1.5Tb, another pair are four partitions, 3 of which are 580Gb. All formatted and functional in the good old basic PC way now !

Now to use a software to write to the 'backup' partition for each of my 6 partitions, every so often, just as raid did, but obviously not every millisecond !
Backup can mean an image, all files scrunched into one and the prog that did it is required to view the contents. I DONT WANT THAT. Should that prog and company fold, I am stuffed, happened to me twice.
I want it as if it was copy paste !

I need a prog to append/incremental (call it what you will) files and folders from my 6 partitions across to the other six partitions every 15mins or 30mins, whatever the shortest intervals are. And not interfere with the performance of my PC.

If I delete a file I want it to delete that file on the recipient drive, so both drives data matches. Likewise if I update a file, it must update the same file on the recipient drive. So e.g. D drive has O drive as its backup, and both contents match.

I dont want compression, this is not a backup image, its cloning the files and folders. I should be able to remove the recipient HDD and view the contents on another PC that doesnt have the copying software installed.

WHAT PROGS WILL DO THIS PLEASE ?

I am win7 64bit pro, Windows inbuilt software for this is too large an increment, 1 day, 1 week 1 month. damn shame that.

Macrium Reflect Pro [not sure if free version will do this] is just one of several programs that will copy data folders and files from source partition to target partition, hard-drive to hard-drive, without compression or imaging.

Cheers, Can it do so running in the background timed to analyze my drives and look for any changes made every 15 mins , or 30 mins, whatever the intervals are it offers, and if it spots any, make the appropriate append across to the recipient partitions, e.g D drive to O drive ? I need an ongoing 'backup' as this will give me, as I dont want to have to think about doing it, hours can go by when I am busy and then I have lost all that work if a drive fails. I wont even get to do it at end of day, as end of day can be 5am and I wont leave appliances on when in bed.

Raid was so lovely, it just wrote to 2 drives at same time, but when it breaks, as my engineer said, its a nightmare to fix., and it was, and to buy a raid card dispensing with the on-board raid that screwed up on the first dirty shutdown due to PC freeze due to memory stick failure, and to have that card after all the reinstating data, an entire week of copy paste back on of 4Tb, act up only to find it was sick at birth, so now what, do it all again, was the final straw.

I have never done timed nor incremental nor differential backups, so I cannot help you further. Others will have to chime in. :)

Cheers,
That leads to RichCopy which is this cmd line with interface.
I wont be typing things into cmd to have it monitor my drives, as and when I think to backup D to O, then E to P etc, I need it to know when to do it automatically. every 15mins, GUI's I understand.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2009.04.utilityspotlight
what would be the settings in that panel then for it to monitor my DEGHIJ drives and write any changes to my OPQRST drives (D is aimed at O etc) and to do so every 15mins ?

else if I have to type code, what do I type and where so as to have it monitor and write changes from DEGHIJ to OPQRST every 15 mins ?

Cheers
