What do you clean a monitor with?

I used a baby wipe, but what Ive noticed regardless of what i clean it with when the screen is still black you look close you can see dry marks of what you used to wipe it with, is it supposed to do that?

Be sure to wipe it clean when monitor is off and cold this avoids drying marks.i bought a little cleaning pad for lcd's it looks like an old record cleaner and has a small spray bottle in the handle ,baby wipes are fine for the outside of the screen but i would recommend squeezing excess liquid off first ,some wipes are wetter than others i would reccomend Huggies pure they have a higher cloth quality to them. so would my 17 month old i often find him with all the wipes pulled out of the pack and wiping tables , books ,toys ect gonna teach him to use the vacum cleaner soon!!

I think it depends a lot on what kind of screen you've got.

I have a laptop where the screen is covered by some sort of a glassy (maybe transparent plastic) panel. Therefore this can be cleaned by anything that won't drip through.

My old LCD monitor is not like that, I would call it a "naked" LCD panel. I used to pay no attention what I was cleaning it with, used to buy all kind of "special" wipes or even used a vacuum cleaner to get rid of dust. Now I find the screen slightly damaged. What I mean is that while the monitor is off, I can clearly see traces of old wiping moves all over it. You can't see anything on a bright picture though.

Now, recently I got a brand new Samsung SyncMaster and I decided I want to keep that one clear. This one came with some sort of cleaning cloth - basically the same type you get with good sunglasses (or regular glasses maybe - I just don't use those) - and clear instructions to use only water and nothing else - no alcohol-based solutions or any other chemical wipes. I am following these instructions and so far everything is working out great.

When the ashtray in my car gets full I just buy a new car. Same with monitors, when they get dirty I just buy new ones. Easy peasy.

High pressure steam clean and then a rub down with coarse pumice stone. Only one a week though!

Here are some tips:

1.Avoid using paper towels, toilet paper, tissue paper, or something like your shirt to wipe the LCD screen. These non-ultrasoft materials can easily scratch the screen. The microfiber cloth is a good choice.

2.Avoid cleaning products that contain ammonia, ethyl alcohol, acetone, toluene, ethyl acid, or methyl chloride. These chemicals can react with the materials that the LCD screen is made of which could yellow the screen or cause other kinds of damage. Use water or a vinegar-water mix.

3.Never spray liquid directly on the LCD screen or it could run inside the monitor and cause damage.
