Hi. What do you do after a fresh windows 7 install to customize your computer? Aside from installing firefox, notepad++, filezilla etc, I always edit the folder options to show hidden files (except sys) and show extensions.

I also change the libraries.

First thing that I did was to remove that stupid "partition" which was dividing my harddrive into 2 parts. Next, I went into the Control Panel and removed all of those bs "trial" programs. Including the trial anti-virus. Next I lowered the security setting for the Administrator rights (another ingenius "upgrade" they made) so I could install Microsoft Apps 2003 and all my other programs, including my anti-virus. Next I installed Mozilla Firefox, and deleted Explorer. Then I uploaded all my personal files which I had saved to disk. There are a million other things which I've done to tweak it since then, but it's really all a matter of personal preference.

My process

1: Windows 7 ISO
2: Avast (including any program / definition updates)
3: Windows updates
4: Windows Home Server Connector

5: FF with normal addons (ABP, Coral IEtab, Better Privacy, Bug me not)
6: MS office or Open office 3.2
7: Foxit reader
8: CD burner XP
9: Paint.NET
10: Bios or Driver updating

11: Run Full system scans (including startup), MS malware removal tool, Windows Def.
12: Turn off restore points

13: Now I do a full "Baseline backup" using my Windows home server as the GOLD copy and save it Permanently for when it is needed for Bare metal restore, Virus overlays restorations, other major reasons to do a full system image restore, etc.

14: Now add music, pictures, and other personalized touches or theme tweeks

15: Start the Daily, Weekly, Monthly backups (full and incremental) using Windows Home Server for redundancy and single file/directory restores).
