yes i know of this .the reason why i changed from intel was i always had cooling issues

I've been fortunate to not have cooling issues with either platform. And 95% of the time, I run the stock coolers...I'm even overclocked on a stock Intel Cooler on my Q9550.

Of course, people often want to get the highest specs they can find and the absolute lowest cost...hence the reason cheap parts are often used.

That MSI board just happens to be the next generation of my current 890 and I will tell you it's a fantastic mobo.

I have just been reading a German review for the new AMD Llano A8-3850 quad core 2,9 Ghz. The onboard graphic chip HD6550D works with 600Mhz and is supposed to be twice as fast as the HD Graphics 3000 that is in the new Intel processors. Unfortunately the AMD processor itself is not very interesting and only manages to match the Intel Core i5 661 3,33Mhz. coming behind the AMD Phenom 2 X4 965 3,4 Ghz
I hope the Bulldozer chips fare better

so that is not a issue, but how is the board holding up besides that ?

That actually was one of the boards they have a sabortooth for 199.99 with 4 x 16 pci lanes for quadfire not that i need it but i can get one with 4x 16x lanes

If you find a board you like you won't be disappointed. Overall, I'm happy with the performance but I really need a better chip to see what it's capable of (I know I won't know fully until BD chips are available but I can wait)

Well, you might be disappointed if you had an older AMD chip, and then bought a new AMD board, followed by a new AMD chip only to find out that a comparable Intel board and chip could provide better performance for about the same cost. That's why I would wait to ensure that Bulldozer is a great competitive chip. Same reason why I'm on the fence of suggesting anybody build an Intel rig right now, because it's best to wait for Bulldozer as it might be more powerful for less price.

I don't see it like that, but I know what you mean. I went from a 790X (DDR2) to a 990FXA and just the RAM upgrade alone was worth it. I'm not suggesting that everyone should go and buy a new AM3+ board but enthusiasts like us like to have the latest gear (I know I do at least) Plus, I'm expecting big things from BD and refuse the pay over $1000 for an Intel chip.

You don't have to pay $1,000 for an Intel chip. The 4 core i5-2500 ($209) can outperform the current AMD 6 core 1100T ($190). I'm annoyed when people think the only way to compare a 6 core AMD is to a 6 core Intel.

Some of us just want to support the underdog and hope that this new bulldozer chip will create more healthy competition between the two which benefits us all. I try not to get annoyed as everyone has an opinion and nothing here at SF gets livelier than the I vs A, R vs N or what is the best A-V discussion. All this reminds me of the auto analogy, I still own the first car I ever purchased a Datsun 240Z and sometimes wish I had opted for the Triumph TR6, Porsche, BMW, Camaro, Vette or insert a "multitude of other makes here". But in the end I have history with my Z and as crazy as it may sound I have history with AMD. All this being said I understand that Intel makes amazing products and most all of the reasons I enjoy AMD products are for this very competition driving our technologies forward. I say Viva La Difference !

I love to support underdogs and have owned many AMD boxes myself. Don't just lump me into an Intel fanbody, as I am not. Nor am I loyal in any way to Intel. Without a doubt, if AMD has the better performing chip when I build my new rig and at a price competitive to Intel, I will buy the AMD. I truly am hoping that the Bulldozer will be phenomenal. But I would be hard pressed to pay nearly the same amount of money for a chip that doesn't perform as well....I don't like the underdogs that much.

Well guy's im updating my status

I went ahead and bought the MSI 990FXA-GD80 MB

Picked up 8 gigs of Corsair Vengence ram Lp 1600mhz

Also grabed a new case cheapy but better then the one i am useing Coolermaster Elite 371

Grabed 2 more 120 mm fans and have a extra one to install as well and the case it self had 1 -120mm fan already

i will be taking the psu i am useing now and swap it with my old 600 watt psu

Then swap my 6870 and put the 5770 back in the old system

im going to take my time might be a few weeks till i get it all going

I might grab a ssd and a blu -ray player but debating im not to worried about the ssd to much as in the Bd chip itself when it comes out

anyway i am pleased with my purchase thus far cost me $360.92

plus my sister might buy this rig off of me for 350.00 she will have a great rig for nothing basicly she is paying for my board and the ram etc ....

Thats friggin awesome. Please take lots of pictures of the build and with luck you'll be one of the first few here to post their Bd rig and keep us all informed on it's progress. As well tell us how you like that MSi board and Vengence ram when you start building your Bd beast ! You may want to investigate if with your new case and ram you can squeeze in the brand new and still back ordered Corsair H100 cooler which without a doubt will be in my case some day soon....any one interested in a lightly used H50 only driven to church on Sundays?

I never made any comparisons...you did. I simply said that I would not pay over $1000 for a CPU (which is what the best Intel chip costs) If little things like that get you annoyed, you probably need to rethink your life because it's really not a big deal

So, you are just comparing the most expensive AMD chip to the most expensive Intel chip That would make sense, except that from a performance standpoint, you don't need a $1,000 Intel chip to run better than a $200 AMD chip, you only need a $210 Intel chip to outperform the AMD.

Being annoyed is not a big thing either, I didn't say I want to do myself in. What bugs me is when people make blanket statements like "AMD is way cheaper, or far better bang for the buck". Which I'm not accusing you of making here, it's just an observation I have made over the years.

Way back in the day, AMD chips used to cost about 65% less than a comparable Intel. Ever since those days, AMD has retained this crown as being WAY, WAY, WAY cheaper than Intel. However, these days, the price difference is only like 10%. And when you mentioned the Intel $1,000 chip, it seemed to indicate to me that you were saying that the Intel which might provide a slight improvement was nearly $1,000 and unreachable and overpriced. I was simply mentioning that a small performance improvement might only be $10 or $20 away.

I'm hoping the Bulldozer comes out and puts up better performance than the Intel i7-990X because if I could get a $329 AMD chip that beats a $1,000 Intel chip...now we got a nobrainer on our hands.

These are on short notice but you get the idea i have a tottal of 5 120 mm fan two on top two on the side and one in the back

Also i would like to ask since i have a tottal of 5 fans should i push and pull on top and do the same on side one facing in one facing outward? would that make sense?

Front and side case fans intake only, rear and top exhaust only. Regarding the CPU cooler does it have P/P configuration and if you can spin the fans to flow air from bottom to the top and exhaust towards the top case fan that in my mind is perfect but towards the rear is normal and I'm sure would work great as well.
Freakin awesome mobo, there's just nothing that thing wont do.....enjoy cause it's the last mobo you'll need for awhile !
