The human eye sees at 28fps, so if you can notice the difference between 30+ and say 60+ id consider you super human ;)

im super human than :D

You don't need to be super human to notice the stutter caused by sudden frame drops.

That human eye argument is old and holds no water with regards to frame drops in gaming. Sorry.

lol it does. Like i said the noticeable drop in performance isnt the drop in frame rates its your hardware struggling.

if you able to manually adjust the number of frame rates on the fly, with say the most powerful gpu in the world you would not notice it.

What you notice is the delay between hardware responses trying to cope with the demand its getting.

Thats why most console games are locked to 30fps. Developers make the games within the boundaries of the hardware performance, so it will never ask for more than it can provide, and we are none the wiser.

And also whos to say fraps is 100% accurate. even if it had a 1% error margin, if your playing a game and only getting 28fps (according to fraps) it could be 27 ect meaning you notice a difference.

But regardless of that, with a pc if you get less than 35fps you can always drop the textures ext.. and if your playing it on minimum everything.. then its time to invest in a new GPU..

I tend to agree with everyone on the FPS.
I too can notice the difference.

To me personally, I consider my games running great if they can keep steady 60FPS.
Or at the very least, 60FPS for the majority and worst case framerate drops stay at 45FPS+

For example a game thats holding a nice 60FPS feel nice and smooth.
Worst case scenario, things get really bad, it may drop as low as 45ish FPS briefly. I typically do not notice it and gameplay still feels fluid & smooth .

But at a steady 30FPS, theres a chance of dropping down in to the lower 20s, and I can really notice those drops.

But its a bit more than that.
Take Alice Madness Returns for example, which is locked to 30FPS by default.

Although it did seem to hold that 30FPS quite well and steady, it just ...

I dont know how to explain it .. Felt a bit sluggish and Jittery. As if animation frames were just being dropped. (best I can explain it)
And it wasnt my hardware struggling either. Because my 570 was yawning at me, and just barely doing anything (like 20% load)

Once it was at 60FPS, it felt as smooth as can be.

Perhaps this is something like the microstutter issue from Multiple GPUS. Some people are far more sensitive to it, and notice it it easily, Others less sensitive to it and never see it.

And speaking of frame drops....

In Skyrim has anyone been to the Mages College? If you have have you noticed stuttering as you get closer to entering the building?

I've seen this no where else in the game but at the college. In that area you have lots of snow and the lighting effects

ScreenShot68.jpg

The funny thing is is once you get insdie the building, which has way more going on the frames pick back up

ScreenShot51.jpg

This is 100 percent reproducible for me. It doesn’t kill the game play but you definitely notice the frame drops.

Anyone else experience this?

Maybe its just me then.. On Bf3 maxed out at 1080p i get min of 34fps and max of around 60fps and the only reason i know theres a difference is because i had fraps telling me.

Havent noticed anything like that on skyrim, only bug ive found is peoples faces dissapearing and only leaving their eyes and hair when im at erm.. the first town something wood lol

havent been there yet. :(
Sadly, Ive got Skyrim (and all other games) on hold ATM due to the New PC build soon.

ATM Im preping everything for the build, so Steam Games are currently being backed up to discs, and the Spinners will get a good Clean All and Full Format today.

Hopefully Ill catch up with everyone soon in Skyrim though.

BTW (bit off the topic) but I had picked up Dragon Age 2 a couple weeks ago for $8 on Origin.
And when compared to the original game, Im sorry to say ...
What a turd of a game.

I mean, I did enjoy it to a point, but it just seemed to be missing that special something of getting me interested in the charcaters & what was going on with the story.
Think the reason I say that was that with Origins I wanted to keep going, and see what would happen. DA2 fails to motiviate in that way, at least for me.
Still havent beat it, but will eventually.
Perhaps its because I was expecting a contiuation of Origins/Awakening, and it feels more like a completely different game.

i agree with those who say you can detect a difference over 28fps.

it's probably a subjective thing, as in some folks don't notice - lucky them! they will be satisfied with weaker hardware.

15 FPS vs. 30 FPS vs. 60 FPS - A Visual Comparison

*edit* just read the other posts, not been to mage's college yet, and yes, dragon age 2 is a turd compared to the earlier games - it lacks that sparkle and wit. it seems it was rushed out in order to make EA a few more bucks.

Perhaps its because I was expecting a contiuation of Origins/Awakening, and it feels more like a completely different game.

While it did have its short comings I didn't think it was that bad. Anyway like a lot of sequels they tend to fall short of the original. I guess it just has to do with the original being a fresh idea and people are like wow, then comes the sequel and we're like been there done that; it also doesn't help that most of these sequel games get dumbed down.

Example - While I'm thoroughly enjoying Skyrim, the game play is severely dumbed down from Oblivion and feels a lot easier to play (master). Interestingly enough I feel the same way about Dragon Age 2 - it’s a dumbed down game from Origins.

Anyway I really did enjoy DA2 despite its short comings - http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/149768-discuss-dragon-age-2-a-7.html#post1302575

And the DLC wasn't bad at all - http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/149768-discuss-dragon-age-2-a-20.html#post1519308

BTW Wishmaster I was under the impression here http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/149768-discuss-dragon-age-2-a-18.html#post1440665 that you already played the game

@ Micky, yeah its kind of hard not to see drastic frame drops.

Here I can go on for hours, but will keep it short, i personally loved dragon age 2, the graphics, story, characters all of it made me play and finish that game 6 times with different gender and class, and a few times for fun with some strange mods( jedi robes and lighsaber for a sword)

Anyway I finished NFS The Run, it's a verry short game, but i enjoyed it at the end, it started dumb for me, but got better, but it's not the NFS we all knew and loved.

As for skyrim, I have killed 7 dragons so far, and battled the main big boss dragon, so felt pretty tough, then got pawned by a giant when i tried to take him on lol, so gonna rethink my strategy on them.

y'know what I hate most about playing the PC version of LA Noire? 'Accomplishments'. For some absurd reason, Rockstar decided to use their social club's non-existent 'accomplishment' system rather than having Games for Windows Live achievements. So, I may be doing better than on the PS3 version and achieving a lot, but it doesn't even count for some digital score that even really means something

i've stolen quite a few things so i could get one of the pickpocket perks which upped my carrying capacity, but have been unable to sell the stolen goods. at the moment, they're strewn all over the floor of my whiterun house.

i read somewhere that you have to join the thieves guild before being able to sell 'hot' stuff to a fence.

are you sure you actually stole the stuff from the trader? in most shops there are items that you can simply take, rather than steal.

Heh, not stolen anything that wasn't required by quest really. There is SO much loot to be had "honestly". :) Though as a second pass I think I'd like to play a thief and just steal skyrim blind for fun... :)

There is a quest where you HAVE to kill a giant, turns out that they can be pretty easy even at low levels. Just out run them, then turn and fire an arrow as they come after you. Then run by them just out of reach and do the same about 20 times. (Or less if you are a higher level archer)
