What is the best antivirus software with a firewall?

I used to use BitDefender but it turned into a pig. Right now I have Avira which has been great and includes a firewall, but renewing requires a donation to some cause. BS!

Is M$ Security Essentials better? I don't trust M$ES.

I don't use Norton anymore because I have had a few viruses get through it.

The reviews on antivirus software are extremely variable. Meaning one says such-and-such is great and another says such-and-such is only average. There doesn't seem to be any standard for testing this type of software.
