What is the difference between atom 1.7ghz and i7 1.7 ghz

hey guys i m actually confused coz intel atom (1.7ghz) is supposed to be same in termss of speed but how can intel i7 1.7ghz be different with intel atom .....plz help

the speed of cpus in terms of ghz is almost irrelevant these days.

its all about architecture. a core i7 is probably 1000x faster in terms of speed compared to an atom. arom processors arw low powered portable cpus. i7 is top of the range all out speedy speed.

a 3.2ghz core i5 for example is still much faster than an AMD equivalent at say 4ghz.

a formula 1 car has a 1 .6lt engine, it would be a darn sight faster than any run of the mill 2.5lt+ car!!

whats it for?/ whats your budget, lets start from there.
