What program do i use to change fan speeds

I was looking for some programs to speed up the fan on my card. It is set at 60% all the time.

I heard about a program called rivatune?

Is there also a program that works for speeding up cpu fan's?

What programs do you guys use.

Also could someone tell me more about rivatune? Can it do anything else other that fan speeds?

Speedfan...but there's a learning curve to using the software. Just click on the highlighted speedfan 4.49 undre download.

Doesn't Nvidia have a built-in software to do that for your GPU?

Open Hardware Monitor is a very easy to use program and it includes GPU Fan Control Open Hardware Monitor - Core temp, fan speed and voltages in a free software gadget

I got the gpu running at 100% instead of 60% now.

speedfan does take i little learning lol

Just FYI on the subject matter:

The Radeon Series of cards have this setting in Catalyst (the software suite for the AMD cards):
From within the AMD Vision Engine Control Center, go to Performance / AMD Overdrive / then sub menu Graphics OverDrive, there is the fan tweaking amongst the overclocking for the GPU, it's RAM, and Power control.

Best to leave the fans in AUTO unless you have a real need for more speed, 100% all the time is definitely not going to be good for the longevity of the fan on the video card, and shouldn't be needed!?!
I'd get more case fans, if heat in there, is really a problem.

I think setting a fan curve is the better option. I also feel other than the noise factor, 100% fan speed would cause no problems.

I have researched this yet don't have the saved links so this is still up for discussion.

So I spent the last approx 30 minute searching and everything is subjective. While running a fan a 100% would seem to reduce life expectancy, chances are it would last the lifetime of the card anyway. I still stand by the fan curve option, it only makes sense to keep temps cooler. It is all about user preference and their tolerance to noise.

I guess you have never replaced a video card fan before then, if it stops working completely during a heavy load, goodbye card as well.

Good advice, but yes I have. I don't recommend it for just anybody though. I only did it in an old rig, just to do it.

It is actually pretty easy, look at this example

I agree on not running a GPU 100%. I only trurn it up when it`s gonna get hot, not to mention the noise.

@computergeekguy, If you have to run your card at 100% to keep it at around say 110F, then something is wrong, is your case well ventilated ?

Agreed, 100% fan speed as required norm is a red flag of trouble, and better to figure it out ASAP then potentially break multiple expensive components down the road, and would certainly stop all overclocking at that point.

I'd be checking ALL case fans for one gone dead, had one in back recently start/stopping over and over, I could hear it doing it over the other fans and glad I looked, because that fan is especially critical for removal of heat and a reasonable replacement can be had for $10.

Dirty video card fans/heatsinks, worn out thermal paste, and even a bad PSU, are other suspects.

Sorry i haven't replied back in a while.

I must admit i oc every now and then but not all the time. If im going to just be browsing the internet i let the fans do what they want.

It is when i want to push my comp that i crank the speed to 100.

I play games in 3d at full 1080p on a 46" screen with AA so it tends to get a little hot. :devil:

And in some cases such as video conversion i oc my cpu to 3.4 from 2.8 and then run my cpu at 100%

So yes my comp gets hot so i crank up the fans. As for case fans i got a big 250mm on the side.

At idle my comp runs 35c (94f) cpu 40c (110f) with normal fans
