It's really not unusual to see 20 different results for 20 different tests.

I've seen some test results where MSE comes in within the top 5, whereas others show it on the bottom. Same for Norton, or any AV for that matter. Probably the best thing you can do is use common sense, keep your AV defs up to date and make sure your program patches are up to date. I use Secunia to check the programs.

I'm running MSE 2.0, the Norton 360 package and Comodo Firewall/Defense +. So far (knock on wood) they all play well together.

I use Malwarebytes for the on demand scan, as well as MS Malicious Software Removal Tool and run scans with Norton Power Eraser, which also now checks for rootkits.

A little paranoia goes a long way on the internet Dieselman.

Any layer of protection I can get to work well and play well together, I'll use. It's a rough net out there. Using a tiered approach has always worked well for me. I've seen instances where one AV would catch something that the other didn't.

I know it's not recommended that you run 2 AV's, but so far, everything is fine, I haven't had any issues with RAM usage or other (SO FAR....like I said, knock on wood)

I'm probably a bit on the paranoid side as one of my CompTIA certs is Security+. And once you get into studying for it, you're amazed at the number of ways someone can compromise your system. It does leave you a bit paranoid....

Well, it works for me & I'm happy with it.

I do make regular system images and I always have that to fall back on in case of worst case disaster.

If I may make a suggestion, get off AVG asap. AVG is pretty useless. I would use Avira or MSE instead. But if you want the best, get NIS2011. It was on sale last week for $9.

SAS on demand
Mbam on demand

This works well for me on a day to day basis and on the occasion when I hook up a friend's hijacked hard drive to my machine for scanning.

ThreatFire

I also decided to give ThreatFire a try again....and its much better from how I remember it. It no longer makes my computers feel like an old clunker, someone here suggested to put it on level 4, I tried that, but its way too annoying....think I'll keep it on the default level. I'll keep ThreatFire on my computers for a while, and if everything goes OK, then its a new addition :).
